Big letdown! Our Uber driver told us the Duquesne incline was a must see so we planned our trip to visit while in Pittsburgh. First off the parking fee is $5.00. After you pay the fee, and go to get in line, there is a sign that states the no credit or debit cards (cash only) policy. After waiting in line on stairs for almost an hour, we arrived at the station house where there is a sign that indicates exact fare only (no change) There was a change machine that gave us $20 in coins. Later we heard the rude woman at the ticket counter telling another passenger that they could write them an IOU and then they could use the ATM machine in the “gift shop” at the top to get cash. The gift shop was a big joke. Another very rude woman was sitting in a booth selling candy bars and a few souvenirs. There was an observation deck at the top that afforded a nice view of the city. However, there was absolutely nothing else at the top except for a couple of very overpriced restaurants. There were no public restrooms either. This whole experience was a huge waste of time and money. The signs regarding cash only exact fare need to be more clear and posted where you get the parking ticket or better yet this policy should be stated on the website. Also this is a very popular tourist attraction and should have a public restroom. Lastly the rude employees need some customer service training or need to be replaced. If I could have given this place zero stars, I would have. Don’t waste your time. Mt Washington overlook is free except for the on street parking and also offers a very nice view...

For PARENTS with little ones 2 and under:

  1. if you're going from the bottom up, you have to pay a $5 parking fee
  2. if you have a stroller you una have to trek up and around the parking to get to the station
  3. if you have a stroller, you have to then cross a very busy street with no pedestrian crossing (there is a bridge above but only steep and numerous stairs up.. no ramp)
  4. upon reaching the station, you have encounter a tall step (again not stroller friendly and no ramp) in order to enter
  5. upon hauling your stroller over the step, you have two options, leave your stroller at the bottom of the stairwell which you now face OR haul it up with you (by this point I choose to leave it and carry my kids)
  6. once hiking up the stairs you may make the pleasant discovery that they ONLY take CASH! (so you may have to return to your car to get that...hopefully this review saves you that trouble)

And if you can believe it, for the sake of $5 the employee here had me make this entire excursion TWICE which means crossing a very busy street 4X as a solo mom with two kids two and under and a heavy stroller! So you can understand why I am rating them extremely poorly for customer service Had my kid crying because we couldn't go the first time around Dear heartless old lady know who you are... May the Incline find employees with a heart in the future because the actual...

Ride the cable car At Duquesne Incline and see the best views of downtown Pittsburgh

So whenever you see pictures of Pittsburgh, I am sure you are looking it downtown with and cable car in the foreground. it is easily one of the best things to do in Pittsburgh.

From the cars, there are great views out over the city. Once used to transport workers all the way back since the 1800s. they are still using two original 1877 cable cars, the Duquesne Incline is a working museum, with the upper station providing photos and displays on the history of the incline. at the top, you can also see the working mechanism, wheel, and all.

I don't know if it is the norm, but there was a guide in our cabin and he gave a brief idea about incline history, and how it come into the picture. Duquesne Incline was rescued and restored by a group of local residents in 1963 and still delights residents and visitors with its original, elegant, wooden cable cars

Parking: $10 and that's valid for 24 hours. Parking is more expensive than tickets which are just $5. You don't pay at the counter, you put the exact amount in a cylindrical box (nobody checks what you are putting in the container). a counter lady comes in a while and shoves it with a stick. i have never seen a system like this.

if you want to experience a slice of the city’s long...
