Nice enough rink, small but very charming, especially at night when the giant Christmas tree is lit. However, it's run by a bunch of kids, literally teenagers or people in their early 20's, who may not be particularly versed in safety enforcement. That's all well and good, until it's not. On light up night, my 8 year old son (who is a proficient skater), was run into by another skater, which ultimately lead him to be admitted to Children's with a concussion. Sure, accidents happen, I get it. But, as I was later told, the kid/teenager who ran into my son has a history of reckless skating and has run into other skaters at this rink in the past, per a rink staff member. Hmmmm, seems like that may be a safety concern that a responsible party would take into consideration before letting the skater in question on the ice again. Full disclosure, I hadn't arrived at the rink in time to witness this first hand, so there may be something left to interpretation. But a small child was dropped by a teenager with a history, so interpret that as you will. This rink is way too small, especially when crowded, to let anyone short of Kid Crosby to fly around. Not only do the ice monitors seem to not care how people skate but, in this instance, they also let a skater with a known history of recklessness continue to skate recklessly. I'm not specifically blaming the ice monitors directly because they're all young and I don't know what they've been tasked/trained to do. But whomever is in charge better get their priorities straight, and right now. We'll be back, it's otherwise too nice of an experience, but I'm on high alert from the minute I...

Read moreThe Rink at PPG Place has been a yearly holiday activity in Pittsburgh with its festive lights and decently sized ice rink. I was excited for this yearly tradition and took some friends with me. However, my friends and I could only skate for 30 minutes because the amount of discomfort from these blue rental skates. They destroyed the arches of my feet and I could barely skate. I had worn proper socks and tightened the skates properly, but not just me, all my friends had a horrible experience. This was a waste of $20 and my time. I will not be back here or recommend to anyone unless these skate rentals...
