The whole place smelled like old fish.
I selected my 3 small items and stood in the only line available.
It just so happened that I approached as a customer had paid out and was given his change. He protested that the change was incorrect and refused to accept it, saying that he had paid with a $100 bill. (She should have verbalize the bill as she took it from him)
When he said he gave her a $100 bill, she opened the drawer and said quite loudly, "here is your money, you gave me a $50!" BUT.... alas it was a $100 bill!! She was wrong.
The cashier had placed it in the drawer in the $50 slot (most all merchants place checks and $100's beneath the drawer.)
Smart cashiers leave the metal clip that holds bills in the "up" position until they've counted the change out the change and count "toward" the bill placed and marked by the "upward" clip, which is a double check to ensure correct change is given before the drawer is closed. She just closed it and never verbalize receipt of HIS $100 bill.
She gave him an additional $50 in change. She didn't aplogize to the elderly couple. The next lady said she wanted to go get more tofu. The casher said, ok. The lady went to get more tofu. The cashier, unapologetically left me standing there with my 3 small items!!! She could have rung me up and let me go with no encumberance to the lady who left to go get more tofu.
In the meantime another cashier opened a lane and neither women invited me to go in that line or even mentioned it was being opened. No light indicators, nothing, and she was cleaning, so I wasn't sure if she was a janitor or cashier. I thought, should I ask? Oh, nevermind. Two people just entered that lane.
So, here I am STILL standing and waiting on tofu lady. It seems as if she might have e stopped for wine or something that takes time to select.
The cashier doesn't apologize, greet me, nothing. This is ridiculously bad service and they clearly don't appreciate courtesies or customer service.
I just walked out and left my frozen watermelon drink, bottled water, and banana candy on the conveyor belt.
Apparently, the cashier needs serious training with common sense!!
Management must be horrid. The way the place smelled, I decided the fresh watermelon slush drink might not exactly be sanitary. How could I come across 3 bad events on my first visit? This wasn't just a chance. Its an INDICATOR of store-wide poor management that is surely present in food prep areas, as well. Especially with the...
Read moreTerrible! They don't disinfect the shopping carts and baskets. No wipes available to disinfect. Customers use it push it around and return back to the cart line. God knows this is why COVID19 is being spread!!!!. I have to bring my own wipes to wipe the shopping carts. They are not doing a very good job of cleaning and disinfect the aisles, and shopping area. No one to clean the tables or chairs in the cafeteria area. Nobody wipes the conveyer build at the check out stand. No one even wipe the keys on the credit card terminal. This place is going to be a hive of COVID19 breeding center.
CVS wipe the credit card terminal after each customer. Walmart has disinfected shopping carts laid out for their customers, when they first walk in. These company do a great job of protecting it's customers.
On the other hand, 99 Ranch Market is a petri dish of COVID19 bacteria incubator. Someone needs to call the health department regarding this store. I feel like I need a full oxygen equipped hazmat suit to shop at this place. If you want to get the COVID19, definitely go here.
Update: 1/4/2021
Just got back from 99 Ranch again. Still no disinfecting of carts. Plus no wipes. However, I did see a hand sanitizer station located at the entrance. but. ITS EMPTYYYYYY. A lot of good it is for protecting your shoppers.
Second item. I bought a bunch of these pro-biotics. 4 for $2.50 what a good deal. So, I bought 8 of them. I get home, and opened one up. Then SURPRISE!!!!. it's green and jellylike. I looked at the expiration date on these. They are expire since 8/17/2020!!!!!!!! My GOD! no wonder they were so cheap. Is your store just trying to make people sick on purpose???? No disinfecting carts. Selling products that are almost 5 months expired? I will be reporting to the health department for this. You willingly and knowingly selling out of date products. Not just a few days, or a few weeks. BUT ALMOST 5 months!!!!!!. See picture below. I have the products and the receipts and I will be contacting the health department for an inspection....
Read moreI love this grocery store! If I am ever on this side of town, I try to stop by because I know they'll have something tasty. I also really appreciate the measures that they take to protect their customers and employees during this pandemic. The store is always neat and tidy, there are paper towels and disinfectant for your hands and cart right in the entryway, the employees are also under a tent instead of just behind a tiny plexiglass shield like most stores. The cashiers are also allowed to decline service to customers not wearing face masks properly. I wish the store that I worked at gave their employees that level of protection. It shows a lot about the company when they actually care about their front line workers at a time like this and provide them extra protection. The bakery section is a personal favorite of mine, and everything is now individually wrapped to prevent contamination. I haven't ordered from the cafe yet, but it always smells so good. It's a great place to get everything for my stir fries and find new things to try. I stock up on frozen dumplings and buns. The food is fresh, the labels have both a date of manufacture and a best by date. There are also some very reasonably priced kitchen and housewares, and I love the Hada Labo skincare line which they also carry here. It has everything I'm looking for at a reasonable price. If you're in East Plano, stop in for a treat!
Edit January 2025: I was back at 99 Ranch Market today, and happened to catch them while they were unloading a truck. I saw at least a dozen employees flock to the salesfloor to quickly move the palleted frozen and refrigerated food into the coolers. As a person who works at a different grocery store, I was impressed with how quickly and efficiently they get the cold food into the salesfloor coolers. They were also restocking produce. Amazing job actually keeping the store staffed so the food stays within safe temperatures! I'm confident that the food I'm buying...
