This was surprisingly a pretty good, almost great, experience. The attendants were super friendly and took the time to answer your questions etc. We brought our 7 year old Jack Russell Terrier with us and all you need is a print out showing a recent rabies shot with the vets signature.

No need to fill out any paperwork if going to Canada from the U.S. and no import or any other forms to return back home. You'll only need it if you're bringing a pet under 3 months old or if you're bringing a pet to the U.S. and it's lived or been in Canada for 6 months or more.

They have a very efficient system and if your not there on-time (recommended is 60 minutes prior to your reservation) then you can forfeit your reservation.

If you have a later reservation time due to earlier times not being available. You can get there 1.5 to 2 hours before your reserved time. If not, you may get past the gate.

Anyway, it was an awesome time going to Victoria and a great first time experience...

A small sandy beach, an inexpensive marine life center where kids can touch underwater animals, a small playground, and an observation tower at the end of the pier all make for a fun family trip. The pier also hosts a number of events including weekly live music during the summer.

Before taking the family there, be aware that there are a large number of homeless people who hang out and sleep there. They can be loud, but generally don't bother anyone. Unfortunately starting this year (2019) I've noticed a huge increase in shouting matches between the homeless. 5 of my last 8 stops there, there have been fights that, thankfully, haven't become physical yet. But they do involve language I really don't want my toddler to repeat.

The pier is quickly becoming an area that may no longer be as kid-friendly as it once was. Outside of events...

May be it was that the day was cloudy, but it was not that impressive. The view is Gorgeous!!! The pier is well taken care of, but it could be prettier. There is a tower you can go up and take pictures from. At the end of the pier there are people trying to catch crab. Some of them actually caught some. It was windy. There are a few homeless people but something too bad conpared to Seattle or Portland. Habia viento. Hay vagabundos pero nada comparado con Seattle...

As a boater: unless one of the small cruise ships that visits the city is tied up here (or the harbor is dead calm) expect to roll a LOT while tied up here. That said, the pier is typically quite empty and makes a safe spot to overnight in a pinch. Deeper vessels, watch your depth sounder! The eastern-most floats are your best bet, especially in negative tides. Provisioning is a bit tough, as the nearest grocery is Safeway (ick!) ~1 mile uphill. No shore power/water/sewer and the bathrooms are a bit grimy. Not horrible but not spectacular, just average.

I wasn't trying to take photos for here so what's being shown is my oldest son Pat and Leanna, my grandson Isaiah and Loki. Crabbing and having the absolute times of their lives! On a side note the crabs tasted 😎 Most days you can find some of the friendliest people anywhere to pass the time with as you look out across the harbor, Ediz Hook and on to Canada. Just off the Pier there's good food and drink and a motel is actually located just across the parking lot.
