As I sat there thinking how good the appetizer of fried brussel sprouts with balsamic reduction looked I decided I would go ahead and try to eat it with my hands as was apparently suggested by my lack of tableware. After failing to obtain attention after a few minutes we went to obtain them ourselves. The app was very good and as expected - better with knife and fork since I could then get maximum sauce in each bite. Along with this I had a well crafted Bayside Pearl. At first sip I thought it was lacking sweetness, but it grew on me and seemed just right. For entrees we had the Coq Au Vin Pot Pie and Chicken Schnitzel. Both were nicely cooked and properly presented. I would feel comfortable ordering any of these things again, bit none made me want to anticipate going back for my next meal. I was sated, but when the waitress queried us about dessert and suggested the chocolate tart my companion accepted. This was a $10 mistake. What was brought was a small slice of simple chocolate tart with powdered sugar - nothing to jazz it up. No fruit, no sauce, no whipped cream. There must be ar least an 800% mark up for this. It was disappointing to say the least and combined with my lack of tableware at the start makes my return unlikely. Solve these problems and I'd think it a solid choice for those passing through town and cant wait to get in at the Gastropub or don't want delicious...
Read moreSpruce offers a menu of regional-sourced burgers, plant-based entrees, small plates, salads, sides and more. I opted for one of their burgers and was excited to see the ingredient list included Oregon co-op beef, applewood bacon and nearby Tillamook cheddar, which I often buy from a local grocery in Ohio. Upon the first juicy bite, I knew this was an epic burger. It had top quality ingredients and that ever important detail came through with each and every delectable bite.
You can taste the care they put into the preparation of my meal. The cheese was delicious and creamy, and the bacon was thick, smokey, meaty and crispy with a satisfying gush of fat. I hate when bacon turns into a potato chip consistency without any of the fatty goodness, and these chefs know their art and respected the art of cooking bacon properly. The fries were a marriage of perfection as well, bringing flavor and crisp together into its own mesmerizing experience of flavor and experience. All in all, I couldn’t even reach to try and find something that wasn’t perfectly performed by Spruce and their staff. Hats off to their entire crew and...
Read moreWe were hard pressed to find a three-decade anniversary dinner by take out when visiting Port Angeles. Based on reviews and ratings, we selected Spruce. We had the Brussels, a piece of fried chicken, the pork schnitzel plate, and a piece of carrot cake to split for dessert. All of it was absolutely divine. The Brussels sprouts came as a very large order, enough for two. The schnitzel was a good sized portion (2 pieces), and while not the best I've ever had, it was crispy and the sauce was not as dill-like as I'd feared. The saurkraut and fries were were good with it. The cake was a huge success - a moist piece of carrot cake with enough layers to get a bit of yummy frosting with every bite, and some coconut pressed into the top frosting layer. It definitely made an anniversary worthy dinner, arrived hot and on time for pick up, and was reasonably priced. ...
