GameTruck Portland — Attraction in Portland

Scheduled a party in June. Truck showed up early. But minutes before the start time the operator said there were generator issues and had to cancel! No one he could reach out to for assistance. We were left entertaining 15-20 10 yr olds for 2 hours. Kids had a great time regardless but my husband and I were stressed and exhausted. I wonder how often this happens, the operator told us all about the refund policy, knew it well. Other surprise was no call or follow up to apologize a couple of days after the party date. I did eventually speak with the owner. I got a full refund. Was told it was an employee issue. And that I could have a free party and I would have their best operator. I felt better. But I’ve tried to contact them several times to schedule and getting no response. I don’t trust them at this point, not even for a free party. UPDATE 11/26/24: I ended up connecting with Game Truck and we had the free party. It was a great experience. The driver/host was very nice and knew video games well, the kids (mostly 5th graders) had a great time. Most stayed in the truck with brief breaks for bathroom and snacks, but a few kids spent most of their time running around in the yard (so invite kids into video games if you don’t want that to happen!). Disappointing and unprofessional. Called ahead and planned it out with them. We asked about the game we wanted to play, was very clear about how many people we were bringing, and they confirmed over the phone that everything was going to work.

We asked for 8-player Gears of War. They told us they had it, and that 8-player games were possible. They didn’t even have it in the truck.

We relented and agreed to play Smash Bros. Then only half of the controllers worked, leaving half our party out of the game.

The other half of the party decided to play Halo. The first console kept rejecting the game seconds after starting a multiplayer match, several times. Some controllers were janky and would disconnect, others would have buttons double-pressing; one joystick was straight broken. Odd disconnects multiple times.

To top it off, all of the troubleshooting and errors counted against us for our game time.

For how much this cost, this was severely disappointing. I do not recommend...

Overall Great Experience with our Game Truck. Truck arrived ahead of schedule to scope out the area for best setup. Got the truck parked and games fired up to surprise our birthday boy right on time. No time lost playing games from all systems (Switch, XBox, PS). Great selection of games. All players (age 7 to 40+) had a great time. Our Game Guru - Christian, kept us gaming the whole time— swapping games, getting tournaments setup, keeping the fun at max speed for 2 hours straight!

We had a max of 11 players, which seemed ideal. More than that could feel crowded or have people sitting out. Truck was clean and everything worked well.

Even our “Non-players” were impressed with the setup.

Overall, the event was a huge success and we are glad with found you guys!
