This place is a true "Community Center" in the most essential meaning of that term. Mt. Scott is a great representation of the spirit of camaraderie that makes Portland great and it provides an invaluable service to the residents of this community. All of the employees here are outstanding and they have gone out of their way to make this an accessible resource to the people who need it most.
It is rare to find a place that provides rewarding healthy activities for a reasonable cost, not as a profit-making venture, but as a service to the community. This is a robust center offering a wide array of enriching activities such as swimming, pickle-ball, dance classes, aqua-aerobics, gym access, day camps, and probably a whole list of other things that I don't even know about yet.
I am so grateful that this center is available to our community and I hope that it continues to thrive. I take the clients I work with here regularly because it such a wonderful, inclusive, and safe environment that enriches their lives and, by extension, the...
Read moreWe used to go to the pool pre covid. Today was the first time we tried to head back. We arrived around 10:30 am . Our 6 year old son approached the information counter very excited saying we were going swimming and an older women with short hair was very rude to him. Without much other interaction we got a snarky " there's no swimming for kids until 12:30 . Wherever you got the information was wrong ." Maybe she had other interactions prior to this that have assumed the pool was open for kids with the hours listed but it was over the top insensitive considering we didn't say much more than a sentence. Mind you pool hours are listed as open straight from Google . We would have accepted this information regardless and come back another weekend but the delivery was so turse and snarky it left a bad taste in our mouths. There was absolutely no need to be as rude as she was. We may be back again as the pool itself has always been a wonderful experience but how about you update hours or have staff be a bit...
Read moreI really love this community center with its friendly staff , clean environment, and multiple different classes. However there’s only 1 drawback for me- the fitness gym. It’s small, and doesn’t have a complete set of equipment (at least for my needs in a gym). So I find myself trying to figure out alternative moves for about 25%-50% of my workout. And depending on the time of day, I’m having to wait upwards of 15 minutes to use equipment due to others trying to use the same thing/hog certain areas . Or it’s cramped and I can’t find anywhere to do my own reps ( and that’s WITH Covid restrictions of only letting a certain amount of people in at a time due to room size).
So your mileage may vary in the fitness gym depending on what level you’re at but I think for beginners it’s pretty ok. But if you’re into weight lifting, you may have to look elsewhere and stick to using this center for their pool...
