I like going sometimes to this Korean War Memorial as a way of remembrance of family members who served in the Korean War and my Uncle U.S. Navy Lt Commander Pilot and NASA Test Pilot and Astronaut George P. Hodges who is the co- founder of US Navy Advanced Flight Training School - (Top Gun) at Miramar Naval Base in California.
This memorial park brings back a lot of memories of George Hodges and other military family members who are sadly dead.
This public park has a unique special meaning to me because it's a military service connection to my all my deceased family members who served in Korea and gave it all they had for democracy and freedom.
One final note about my Uncle George P. Hodges he flew 458 combat missions in Korea and Vietnam and had 13 painted stars on his jet fighter airplane being America second leading Ace pilot. He said to me "I don't know how Jimmy Doolittle beaten me to be number 1 Ace in the US Navy". I later learned he was very determined to beat Jimmy Doolittle US Navy World War 2 record and failed to accomplish it which he wasn't happy about it. He would eventually tell me standing in Quonsett Naval Base before going to fly in a Navy Jet Fighter airplane being squadron leader of the US Navy Blue Angels precision stunt team. He wished he would have beaten Jimmy Doolittle Ace record and he should have done more with NASA in the Astronaut Human Space...

Read moreThis beautiful park located on South Main Street has multiple sculptures throughout; all memorial to those who've sacrificed their lives during the different wars and conflict. Also, this park pays homage to the survivors. The landscaping was beautiful and there were walking paths throughout. The first sculpture I saw was the kneeling soldier in bronze; this was created as a Korean War Memorial. The second structure was massive; an obelisk with a statue standing on top, which represents peace. There were quotes at the base and steps. This was a memorial for Rhode Islanders who fought in World War I. There's also a Holocaust memorial, water fountain, memorial wall, and a large World War II sculpture with multiple columns. The park is adjacent to the river so it's nice backdrop. If you're in the city, I recommend...
