Oh, we LOVE this park!! It's definitely kind of noisy (State Street running alongside it & Center Street, too) with traffic, but it's not unbearable. I wish there was more shade, but hopefully with the construction of the new City Center there will be more shade during at least part of the day. We haven't tried out the Splash Pad yet, but the Farmers Market has a nice setup on Saturdays now. I think this is the (almost) PERFECT park for little kids (around age 1), because there is a great set-up with a few simple steps to crawl up and then a double slide, and it's easy to get off the slide and back up the steps (which my son has done on repeat before). Just be careful when smaller kiddos climb up beyond the double slide - there are some steep drop-offs (for monkey bars and another climbing "staircase" that a 1 year old probably can't handle on their own). I normally sit down at the top of the stairs (trying not to block the way to the slide/to the bridge for other kids) to make sure my son doesn't run/fall off...
Read moreI walk my dog to this park almost every day. I have memories of this park from when I was a child. It was one of my favorites, because of the old irrigation spillways it used to have. It has some nice open areas, and is fairly well maintained, in spite of it's location near two heavily trafficked streets. The facilities are acceptable, about what you would expect from a public park. Unfortunately, this particular park seems an especially popular destination for the homeless during the summer. They usually keep to themselves, but occasionally it becomes awkward when they start yelling and causing a scene. Also, not sure if they're going to turn on the water fountains again or not? Those seemed pretty popular with the kids. I look forward to the return of the farmer's market here this summer. This community is one where members tend to keep to themselves. This is one of the areas that seems to break this mold, and encourage residents to interact with each other. That is a nice change...
Read moreSmaller park but makes up for its smaller size with a lot of good shady trees. With the hotter summers shade for family outings is a must and this place has that in aces. My daughter has been loving going and trying different splash pads as well and this one may not be a huge one but for some reason it seemed perfect for her with all the water shooting around in fun ways keeping her cool and playing. The people that come to this park usually keep to themselves. At least the adults do. The kids are very playful and fun and friendly. My daughter had no trouble finding some kids she never met before and getting along with them famously. I highly recommend this park for little family outings or family get-togethers. There's plenty if space and shade to share. Only down side for me is just wish there was a bit bigger splash pad and playground but great...
