Yesterday I had the WORST EXPERIENCE at poe. As a repeat customer for the past year I will stop going to this location. My reason why is because yesterday I came in with my sister as usual with my cat in my backpack (Iâve been told several times by staff that ALL ANIMALS ARE WELCOMED) and see animals come in all the time. There was a giant husky today laying on the floor in the middle of the shop. Usually Iâm greeted by animal loving staff that say hi to my cat. Today there was a guy who started being dramatic and loudly complaining that heâs âallergicâ to cats and giving everyone around him grief. He proceeds to get an employee to complain and she told me I had to leave. AFTER I PAID FOR MY DRINKS AND SAT DOWN. Confused, I gave a little pushback that I had every right to be there and the cat is contained in a backpack. Also why kick me out when you couldâve kindly told me to move further from the insufferable guy? I was over it. As I annoyingly walk away and wait for my teas to be done, a sweet blue haired barista assured me all pets are allowed, I did nothing wrong and my cat was contained in a backpack and SHE TOLD ME I HAD EVERY RIGHT TO BE THERE. I told her well, her co worker told me to leave and the nice blue haired barista seemed confused. Still, she asked for my cats name and tried to be nice. Anyways we proceed to go sit outside annoyed when the allergic guy walks outside to argue with his gal friend (the one setting up karaoke equipment) who said he was âbeing an AHâ and flicked him off. Before walking away she and another couple came to me and said I did nothing wrong and they leave. At this point allergic insufferable guy sits near us outside and calls someone on the phone to complain again since he has no one else left to complain to. I tell him to grow up and we get into a yelling match outside. Then my sister says âif you didnât make a scene and asked us nicely to move further we would have.â I said âYEP!â He then gets quiet and PROCEEDS TO SAY SORRY. What?!?! Then he proceeds to give me a hug⌠what?! Guess he wasnât deathly allergic after all because Iâve been holding my cat all day. Make it make sense.
So this complaint I have is with the barista who thought kicking us out was justified. I hope she reads this and realizes she cannot treat customers this way and maybe next time she should learn the rules that ALL PETS ARE ALLOWED AND CATS ARE ALLOWED IN CONTAINED CARRIERS. All of this would have been avoided if she did her job and asked a superior instead of listening to a man Karen. If the insufferable guy can apologize to us and make it right. Why not this employee who wouldnât even look me in my eye? Also isnât it the customers job who is âdeathlyâ allergic to animals to make sure the establishment has a no pet policy before coming?
There needs to be more people like blue haired girl working there with actual integrity than that other chick. Truly not...
Read moreI have been going to Peace on Earth since it opened like 6 years ago. At first, I absolutely adored it - it was a haven in Provo with great drinks, decent food (the food has never been amazing), nice baristas, and cool people. However, its decline since has been gradual and, most recently, steep. Here is everything that has gotten worse.
Prices have crazy increased. You will pay $8-9 for a latte if you want an alternative milk. I get that inflation affects it and people should be paid a livable wage but my two new favorites (JJ in Orem, La Barba in Draper) have increased to about $5-6. Still high, but acceptable and understandable.
They are constantly out of things. One day last week, they were out of oat milk, almond milk, breve, AND coconut ?!
The coffee itself isn't as good anymore and almost all the syrups are store-bought. They used to have really cool, innovative drinks that they would switch up regularly and make syrups homemade. It feels like no one cares anymore. The food, edible at one point, has now descended to almost inedible. Store-bought as well (some of the muffins they sell are straight up from Costco), never fresh, and way too overpriced.
The store smells. If you are in there for an hour, you will walk out with your clothes smelling. I have friends who will refuse to go there because they don't want to ruin their clothes.
The baristas that used to work there were all so kind and had been around for a long time. They knew your name and what you ordered and would strike up a conversation. Now, half of them have Airpods in their ears when you're ordering, look depressed, and try to take your order as quickly as possible with as little talking as possible. I'm all for efficiency, but it comes across as dismissive and rather rude.
As a local business and one of the few coffee shops in Provo, I want peace on earth to succeed. But it is now a stark, empty shell of what it...
Read moreSomething is not quite right here. We were on a road trip and looking for a decently quick and healthy bite to eat for lunch. Google maps said it was less busy than usual, so we took a chance and drove into town at about 11:30 am on a Sunday hoping for GF avocado toast or an acai bowl. The place was pretty full, but not packed. Most tables were taken, and there were about a dozen people in line. What was strange was that there was no food in sight anywhere in the outside or inside eating areas other than the counter pastries, and none came out of the kitchen the entire time we were there. I didn't even see a finished plate or scrap of food waste, nor were there any food smells. I also looked back at Google and saw that there were no food reviews for the past 3 months.
We got in line to order at the counter. I couldn't find any printed menus, so I tried the QR code for the menu that was sitting on the counter. Nothing came up. By this time, we noticed that they seemed understaffed, so we decided to just order cold brew and the one GF pecan spice bread they had on the counter. I asked the person at the register if they had cooked food, and she said yes. She explained that customers had stolen their printed menus. I asked about the QR code, and she said it no longer worked, but we could just go to the website to see the menu. (No idea why the QR code was still on the counter.)
The 2 staff we saw were clearly stressed and apologetic, and one was just shaking his head the entire time. I felt bad for them. They still managed to get our cold brew out pretty quickly.
If you are going for alcohol, there is a sign that they are not serving alcohol until further notice. That may have something to do with it being less busy and less staffed than usual.
The pecan loaf was just ok. The cold brew was great, and I got mine for free for...
