An incredible source for a very wide variety of Asian cuisines as well as a small selection of kitchenware and even some incredibly nice glazed bowls, spoons, pots, etc.
Don't be thrown off by the cramped, "old" feeling to the interior. This is an incredibly good store that probably has whatever you need for Asian cooking and plenty more besides.
And I guarantee that you'll walk out of the store with at least twice as many things as you had on your list, haha. I'm always finding new things that I just "have to" try.
A few examples of what they have: fresh lemongrass, whole parrot fish, apple snail meat, everything you need for boba teas, kimchi, king oyster mushrooms, several dozen varieties of ramen from Japan, Korea, etc, raw/fresh noodles, mochi, sashimi-grade tuna cubes, steamer baskets, rubber-freaking bands for all your kinky needs I guess, fresh-made rice snacks at the counter... You want it, they probably have it lol.
Oh and the staff are always incredibly kind and helpful and, of course, at least one person there can often help you interpret whatever writing is on a package, particularly in Chinese and Japanese in my experience.
This local business is absolutely deserving of your support! And after visiting I'm sure you'll agree ;)
**PLEASE NOTE: once or twice I have found a product that was past the sell-by date. This is not usually an issue in the supermarkets we all are used to because of high turnover and comparatively low variety in products.
I don't dock any points from the review for this because it's frankly understandable and I have no idea how they could possibly keep up with every single item. If this were a supermarket like WalMart, I would absolutely feel differently.
Please just check the dates on everything you're about to purchase and, if something is past the sell-by date just (kindly!) inform a worker and they'll be glad you told them. This has happened relatively rarely to me but it is something to keep an eye out for.
If you don't notice the expired sell-by date until you get home or you really need that one thing, know that a number of things are still good for consumption for a time past the sell-by date. Look it up online and odds are the product will be just as good and perfectly safe. Always check, though. Of course, returning the item is always an option as well. I'm just lazy and would rather not go through the trouble if I don't...
Read moreBeen here a few times already, it’s just a tad further than I’d like it to be. The store itself is pretty packed with food from aisle to aisle, and aisles are pretty narrow to begin with so if there’s two of you in passing in one aisle, one, has to back out or else they would be invading your intimate space.
However, this store has tons of variety of food from Chinese, Filipino, Indian, Thai, and Korean too. I’m pretty happy with what you can get here, especially having it be in Utah County (which lacks Asian grocery stores).
I did come here last week and stocked up on snacks, Asian sauces, and other necessities. I did notice though, after I got home, that one of the items I purchased (ground chicharon = grinded up pork rinds) had the “sell by” date of May 2020 - say WHAT?! I was just there last week to buy this (November 2020). This item has been on the shelf for 6 months passed the “sell by” date.
I’m assuming the “sell by” date of May 2020, means that maybe a week or two, it will then be no longer “fresh” to eat, therefore, why is it still on the shelf for purchase?
In addition, I asked a young employee there to see if they carried it, and he said no. Two minutes later, I found it myself. Huh. So....this leads me to believe that: The employees are not fully aware of what they carry and sell. They don’t frequently check shelves and expiration dates of items they are selling.
It’s great and all that this Asian grocery store exists in Utah county, but I think it needs improvement on the management side. Again, this store is not super close to home, so this is a money loss for me since I’m choosing to not drive 18+ miles one way to exchange/return this item (I bought 2 bags of it). If they kept their shelves up to date, this wouldn’t have...
Read moreI may be a bit biased cause I've always loved the feel of Asian stores, but I adore this tiny little shop.
They've got an insane amount and variety of products for such a small place and they're great at keeping it easy to shop in. The only real problem is that there's almost no space for a check-out line, but it's never really busy so it doesn't come up very often.
Unless you're looking for a specific brand they couldn't squeeze on the shelf, they've got everything you could need to make delicious Asian food at home.
They know their audience, because their whole back wall is ramen. They've got all The Good Stuff (aka, not cup ramen), and I recommend grabbing an assortment and seeing what you like best. They're cheap so you can very easily spice up your meals without changing the price of them.
They've also got ice cream and sodas chilling in the front if you just want a quick and unique treat. I highly recommend the little steamed buns at checkout if they have them, they're delicious and I like to get some whenever I go.
ONE WARNING: The parking lot is a bit hard to get to. I recommend turning onto it from Center Street, just make sure that if you're turning left that you're in the right turn lane: you won't have time to change lanes before the parking lot. It's not usually a big deal, but it's just good...
