Title: A Pizza Experience to Forget
Last weekend, I decided to treat myself to a cozy evening in with a pizza party. However, what unfolded was a culinary disaster that made me question my life choices—specifically, the choice to order from that certain pizzeria.
As soon as I stepped into the joint, the atmosphere hit me like a brick wall. It was as if I had walked into a time warp, where cleanliness and comfort were mere concepts lost in the winds of neglect. The first thing that struck me was the moldy smell that clung to the air like an unwelcome guest. It wasn’t just unpleasant; it was downright alarming. I hesitated at the door, wondering if I should turn back or brave the “dining experience” that awaited me.
Mistaking my fear for hunger, I pushed through. I approached the counter, where the staff seemed more preoccupied with their phones than the customers. After several minutes of awkward silence, I finally caught the attention of an indifferent employee who took my order with a lackluster attitude. That’s when I should have sensed the impending doom.
When my frozen premade pizza arrived, I couldn’t help but feel a wave of disappointment wash over me. It looked sad and lifeless, as if it had been sitting in the back of the freezer for ages—because it probably had been. Even the cheese seemed reluctant to melt, clinging to the crust as if realizing its fate would soon be a mouthful of mediocrity.
With high hopes and a low expectation, I took a bite. The taste was stale—a flavorless blend of cardboard and regret. I couldn’t distinguish the toppings; they were so dry and uninviting that they blended into the bland crust. To top it off, the faint whiff of mold from the atmosphere seemed to taint every bite I took. The only thing worse than the pizza was the service. It felt as though I was intruding on a gathering where no one wanted me there.
As I left, I couldn’t shake off the feeling of having wasted my evening—and my appetite. The sad symphony of mediocrity played in my head as I walked out to the fresh air, leaving behind that dreadful establishment. It was a pizza experience I’d rather forget, a tale of how not all that glitters is cheese.
Next time, I'll stick to restaurants where the only thing stale is the breadsticks—at least they won’t smell like a...
Read more100/10 would recommend. A group of friends and I were staying at the Caribe Hilton so we ended up going here to eat on our first day. We ended up meeting the owner Jose who ended up being our server. He is literally the most welcoming person ever. For a group of 6 he was both very fast & accommodating. We ordered a combination of things on the menu, everything was amazing! Especially the mozzarella sticks, I still crave them to this day. By that night we had developed a relationship with Jose when we stopped by to grab some more margaritas after ordering at least 15 from our earlier visit. We asked what time they open the next day, he told us the time but also added that if we wanted breakfast he would open earlier for us. One day he even ended up eating breakfast with us at our table. Him & his family made us feel like family. They are so sweet I swear. The first day we ate here I ordered mozzarella sticks with an extra side of marinara so it would end up being 2 little cups of marinara, y’all know for the rest of the trip every time I ordered mozzarella sticks he would put the extra side of marinara without me ever having to ask. & He was that attentive to everybody’s order. His nephew (I think) was also one of our servers at a point in time and I have nothing but praise for him also. 10/10 all around!! We spent the rest of the trip eating at Piola at least once a day. By the time it was time to leave, it was so bittersweet. Jose along with his whole family (I ended up meeting his mom and his daughter, the rest of the group also met his wife) are the nicest, most hospitable people ever. My friends and I (along with Jose’s help of course) ended up making an Instagram on behalf of the restaurant so if the family chooses, they can promote it simply because of how much we fell in love with the food and the level of hospitality we received! @Piolapizzasanjuan. I took pictures with Jose and his mom because those are people you can’t forget. This review is so long overdue, I will never forget our experiences at Pizza Piola over those 6 days. Any time I’m in San Juan I MUST stop here. THANK YOU JOSE...
Read moreI went to Piola recently. I ate a pizza which I would rate 3/10. If it was just bad pizza, I wouldn't even bother giving a bad review as I'm not in the business of trying to damage reputations, however, the staff were extremely rude, to a point where it was almost comical. First, I walk in, without any greeting, I have to spend a minute working out if they are even open. Then, at the counter, I start speaking spanish to the young tall person who works there, he immediately dismisses my attempts to speak spanish (even though I've been living in Mexico for over 2 years and speak spanish) and responds in english. He was also rude and not nice. I then sit down at a dirty table, and after 5 minutes, the waitress decides to actually do her job and ask me what I want to order. I order a pizza, and also ask for the wifi password. She says she will find out what the password is, and then proceeds to never return. I then go to the counter to follow up on the wifi password, and the young waitress and young tall guy (both should be fired) dismiss me and say "we don't know the password". I then receive a very average pizza 10 minutes later. After I pay (I have to go to the counter because obviously the waiter doesn't want to do their job), and then as I am leaving the tall young waiter who is standing by the exit doesn't even aknowledge my existence as I'm leaving (despite being a paying customer). To be clear, I was very polite during my entire experience, but these two waiters were so rude that I would be embarrassed to say that I owned Piola. P.s. I own multiple companies and know what good service looks like, and...
