There's nothing quite like the magic of watching a movie in a theater. The anticipation in the air, the smell of buttered popcorn, and the dimmed lights all contribute to an immersive experience that transports us to different worlds and captivates our senses. However, this enchanting atmosphere can quickly turn sour when a few individuals decide to break the cardinal rule of cinema etiquette - talking during the movie. Harkins Theatres, a popular chain of movie theaters, provides a fantastic venue for enjoying the latest blockbusters, but the issue of disruptive chatter remains a persistent problem that detracts from the overall movie-going experience.

The phenomenon of talking during a movie is not unique to Harkins Theatres, as it is a widespread issue in cinema venues across the world. However, the theater management plays a crucial role in maintaining a movie's sanctity and ensuring that patrons can enjoy their films in peace. Harkins Theatres has certainly made commendable efforts in this regard, with clear signage and pre-movie announcements urging patrons to maintain silence during the screening. Yet, despite these well-intentioned reminders, some audience members seem to have a disregard for the shared experience of the cinema.

One of the most glaring reasons why talking during a movie is bad is its impact on the immersion factor. When you're engrossed in a film, you become emotionally invested in the storyline and the characters. Every whispered conversation, every burst of laughter, and every comment made by a fellow movie-goer shatters that carefully crafted illusion. It's like a magician revealing the secrets behind their tricks; the enchantment is lost. Harkins Theatres invests in state-of-the-art technology and comfortable seating to enhance the cinematic experience, but these efforts can be easily undone by a single chatterbox in the audience.

Moreover, talking during a movie is not just a nuisance for those seated nearby. It's also a matter of respect. When you buy a movie ticket, you are essentially entering into a social contract with your fellow audience members. This contract entails a mutual understanding that everyone present wants to enjoy the movie without disruptions. Failure to adhere to this contract is akin to breaking a promise and infringing on the rights of others to enjoy the movie in peace. Harkins Theatres can certainly post reminders and offer pre-movie pleas for silence, but it ultimately comes down to the behavior of the individual patrons.

Harkins Theatres is not without solutions to tackle this issue. In addition to reminding patrons about the importance of silence, they can also consider implementing stricter enforcement of their rules. Theater staff could be more vigilant in monitoring audience behavior during screenings and taking action when disruptions occur. Of course, this must be done discreetly and professionally to avoid escalating tensions. Many other theaters have successfully employed this approach to ensure a more enjoyable movie-going experience for everyone.

In conclusion, Harkins Theatres is undoubtedly a well-regarded movie theater chain that offers a high-quality cinematic experience. However, the problem of talking during a movie continues to plague this and other theaters. The negative impact on immersion and the breach of the social contract are reasons enough to address this issue seriously. Harkins Theatres, like all cinema venues, can further enhance the movie-watching experience by taking steps to curb disruptive behavior and ensure that silence prevails in the sacred halls of the silver screen. After all, in the world of cinema, silence is...

UPDATE: Had a very pleasant and productive conversation with General Manager. Thank you for taking the time to reach out.

I have been to this Harkins (QC) and several others over the years and usually have a great experience with no issues. Yesterday was not the case. My family and I went yesterday and did not have the experience that I have come to expect from Harkins. In our movie there were several groups of unsupervised teenagers, most were respectful and watched the movie. The group of 5 boys next to us was not the case. To be short they talked, were on their phones, drinking 2L soda bottles, dropping/throwing things all over, left walking past us at least 4x each person in the 2.5hr movie. About 30min in after asking them to stop talking I went to customer service asking them to be removed from the movie. I was told someone would be in shortly to take care of the situation. That was not the case, 2 managers came in at separate times and stood at our row. During that time the boys obviously stopped talking but 2 were still actively on their phones. Nothing was done, nothing was said, and they were allowed to stay. At this point we were past the time to get a refund and were not offered one by customer service either. So we had to try and enjoy the movie while all these antics continued for the whole movie. The only reason I am writing the bad review is bc I tried to address the issues in person in active time and was given...

The theater is well staffed, almost over-staffed for the amount of customers. Plexiglass barriers are on most places but not the actual theaters. They don't do refills on anything but they give you a paper cup for the cost of the loyalty refill. Don't expect a jar of Kernel Seasonings, as those and butter are not available to avoid contamination. They have extra butter in plastic ramekins at the counter upon request. Every other row is cordoned off in the theater, so if you sit three seats away in the same row you are socially distanced nicely. When we went one other time, we were far away from anybody else. The staff is overly courteous right now due to lack of business the last few months. Masks are required everywhere except when actively eating and drinking. Those apprehensive about covid-19 might still not be comfortable due to the eating and drinking. They were very helpful, and the experience was very enjoyable. Get your seats ahead of time since a movie like WW84 will fill up quickly due to limited seating. I rented the entire theater in Christmas Day for $99 and only brought my close family. We also could spread way out. It was one of the best experiences we've ever had, especially watching Christmas Vacation. If you and your family are up to it, please support Harkins as they have been great to me for...

Video Game Birthday Party! 30 foot high definition screen, 12+ surround speakers putting out thousands of watts of immersive sound, and a bunch of 7-10 year old's makes for an amazing birthday party experience! Dollars for smiles/excited yells, there isn't a better deal out there! Most importantly, the staff here at Harkins Theatres go above and beyond to make sure the entire experience is everything you were hoping it would be. The manager was attentive, and they ensured that we had all of the time we needed and more! We had some Xbox challenges that lasted the first half an hour or so, and so they extended our time by more than that amount to ensure that that we had the experience we were coming for. When you are dealing with a once a year experience, that sort of commitment to customer satisfaction makes all the difference!

Update 5/26/23 Had a nice experience again. Very well run business. The Movie was pretty boring though, Book Club 2. Gave their 5 Stars back. Very nice theater, organized and well staffed. *Note added later "Do not buy your tickets online, they charge a $6.00 processing fee." We bought our tickets online before arriving and zoomed right in with no delay. Paid $8 bucks for the movie, $8 bucks for a fountain drink, $8 bucks for a hot dog, and $8 bucks for a bag of popcorn. An anomaly that everything costs $8 bucks. They lost stars for charging a $6.00 processing fee for buying tickets online. This is a money grab! Shame on you Harkins. We all know using the internet saves them money, less staff, no tickets, plan the occupancy of the showing in advance. I will not do that again.

Everyone likes to see movies and this Harkins location is always clean and the people are courteous! They are pretty fast at the snack bar and have food choices. They recently have gone to reservations that you make on the internet, on their app or they offer you an iPad when you show up to pick your seats. I was not a real fan of it at first since they charge extra to book online but I do love showing up 10 mins before show time and I have a reserved seat! Go check it out and let me know what you think! Yes leave feed back. We just watched Frozen 2 and was amazing.
