Track Out Camp is a JOKE! I have signed my daughter up for several different camps around Raleigh to get different experiences. I thought, hey, why not try the IcePlex since it is on my way to work. I had visited the facility prior and it looked as though they had a nice inviting classroom for kids. Since my daughter had done camp at The Factory before, I figured she could get some lessons on skating and be closer to my work. Yea, not so much! Their idea of lessons is to put all the kids on the ice and set them free. There was nobody there to help beginning skaters learn new skills. In the classroom, it was all about the 60 in TV rather than actually doing anything constructive activities. From the moment I dropped her off in the morning until the moment I picked her up in the evening, the TV was on. My daughter is honest and did tell me about her experiences. On the second day, they were all punished and were not allowed to go on the ice in the afternoon because some other students did not listen to the "teacher" (very loosly considering them teachers as they didn't actually teach anything) and were getting into lockers. Why were all kids punished? Those in charge (two 20 somethings) have no experience engaging students in activities which is why the kids were off task more than on task. There were discipline issues daily according to my daughter. I don't need something totally structured like actual school as this is camp and they should be able to have some fun and some play time. However, I do not agree with getting paid to sit kids in front of a TV for hours on end and not actually engaging them in any sort of structured activities. WASTE OF MONEY!!! NEVER AGAIN!! You might as well hire the neighbor kid to watch TV with your kid as they would get just as much engagement as...
Read moreThis was our first time Ice skating and we went for my daughter’s 10th birthday. I would have loved to give a great review because the rink was nice and clean and my kid and her friends had a lot of fun, but I can’t because the staff was disrespectful and rude. They were not helpful ! When we rented skates I asked if they were true to size and the answer was.. yeah ! They didn’t fit so I had my daughter take her skates up one time and ask for a bigger size which shouldn’t have been a big deal and the boy (teenager) working said, “ What now ?” The front desk staff was extremely rude from the start. They said skate assistance rentals were not available for children over 8 because they are too tall and adults using them ! At least 3 adults had them once the open skate began and many children that were clearly above the age of 8 !!! A friend that met us there rented one for her daughter and didn’t have her ID (they require that you leave your ID for the 3 dollar rentals) so, I left mine at the front desk area when she paid. Upon returning the skate assistance rental where I got it from the boy raised his voice at me saying just leave it ! I asked for my ID and he was very rude. Finally, he gave me my ID and said, “ Next time take it back where you got it and pointed !” I actually did bring it back where I rented it from and it was my first time ever coming to the rink … so, I didn’t know the protocol . I’m actually glad my kid and her friends didn’t experience the staff a lot because it would have ruined the experience . Overall, if you don’t interact with the staff this place is pretty awesome and a great time, but they seem to have a lot of rude and unsupervised...
Read moreTook my son to the pro shop this weekend to get him wax laces for his hockey skates so they wouldn't continue coming apart while skating. When my wife grabbed a pair of laces, she was told by the owner that they would be too long. She insisted that we wanted them a little longer so our son would have the room for leverage to keep them tight. He persuaded that there would be plenty of length for that. Upon lacing the skates, that was not the case. We allowed him to try them to be sure they were good, and an hour or so later she returned to return/exchange for the original length she wanted to begin with. She was told she cannot exchange them and she would have to buy another pair.
As the price is not the issue, it would've been a good gesture from ownership to realize that they had made a mistake and allowed her with a smile, to have the original size she picked out to begin with. Focusing on Customer Service and owning a bad transaction would have been a sure way to obtain good report with this situation. Let's be transformational, not transactional, as long-term Customer relations is the sure way to a successful business - something that was not practiced in this situation.
Some things are about the principle of the interaction.
Summary - I will recommend the Teams to go to the Ice House in Wake Forest, not Ice Plex.
Sincerely,
No longer a...
