Red Wing — Attraction in Red Wing

No staff. Train late. Couldn't get on the other late train that was going to the same places. Conductor was smug and enjoyed making us wait for the next late train. First long train ride with our 5-year-old. Sadly, not a good first impression as a train traveler leaving Red Wing. Someone should be on staff in Red Wing to fix these problems. The depot at Red Wing is a restored Milwaukee Road building that has been kept in excellent condition by the City of Red Wing. There is a nice, clean waiting room and rest rooms, and a visitor center located inside. Although there is short and long term parking on site, the ramp, belonging to the St. James Hotel across the road, has monitored long term parking for only $10 per stay. If I were to ride a train this wouldn't be a bad place to stop. Very clean. Nice ammenaties. And easily located in town. The historical brick building of this location drives the imagination of times past. What it must have been like in the early days. Scenes of western movies start to form as trains approach. Old railway meets modern railway at this luxuriant location. The view of the bridge and bluffs only get one to engage in...
