Public safety PSA — Man Brandished Firearm at Off-Leash Dog Park SITUATION A man in a red two-door Jeep produced a firearm and threatened to “put my dogs down” during a non-violent encounter in the off-leash area. I called 911 and police responded. Officers made contact with the man and a formal report will be written in case of further incidents. IDENTIFYING FEATURES (as observed) - White male - Approx. 175 lbs - One leg (prosthetic leg) - Holds a concealed-carry permit (verified by police) - Brought a firearm to the off-leash area VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION - Red Jeep - Two-door model - (Photos of the vehicle / plate were shared with police.) POLICE CONTACT / REPORT - Officers verified the subject holds a concealed-carry permit. - The subject told officers he held pepper spray (per the officer’s account). - Police said they will document the incident and write an official report / addendum in case it happens again. - A complaint has been filed with the responding agency. MY TAKE Bringing a firearm into an off-leash dog area after a prior dog-attack claim is inconsistent with a reasonable de-escalation response — a more appropriate response would be to avoid the area or contact law enforcement. Saying “I’ll put your dogs down” during a non-violent encounter reads as aggressive and retaliatory rather than fear-based. That behavior creates a public safety risk for people and animals in a populated park. OBJECTIVES / WHAT I’M ASKING FOR 1. Public Awareness: Inform park visitors that this individual carries a concealed firearm and has previously brandished it in an off-leash dog park after making verbal threats toward dogs. 2. Administrative Action: Request that the issuing authority for this individual’s concealed carry permit review the police report and this complaint to determine whether his actions demonstrate unsafe or unsuitable behavior for continued permit eligibility. 3. Permit Revocation: Ask that the issuing authority consider temporary suspension or permanent revocation of the individual’s concealed carry permit pending the outcome of their investigation. 4. Park Safety: Urge the city or parks department to consider barring this individual from the off-leash park to protect public safety and prevent future incidents. 5. Community Reporting: Encourage anyone else who experiences a similar threat or witnesses unsafe firearm behavior to contact law enforcement and reference the existing police report rather than confronting the individual directly.

We had a 2 hour wait in Redmond so we took our dogs to the park. I appreciate the two separate areas for different sized dogs. There was a small pool and water bowls that were greatly appreciated. The large area for our big dogs was great! They got some socializing in on a hot day. A bit more shade and another kiddie pool would be good for the amount of dogs in attendance. Thanks much for the human seating! We would use this spot again if we were in need.

I really enjoy this park, its spacious and friendly fun dogs come to play, during the summer they have sprinkler and pool for the pups to keep cool, chairs & benches for humans to sit and fellowship with other companion owners or not. Recent a den of foxes were spotted and I was lucky enough to capture them. Ms. Loree

So grateful to have this dog park here in Redmond! We use the small dog park exclusively but both sides have water spigots and wading pools for the dogs. Sprinklers are often on trying to maintain the grass. Both portions have trees around part of the property, although no shade in the middle of the parks. It would be wonderful to have a few good shade trees planted toward the middle of the parks to provide more respite from the blazing sun we have here in...
