Grotto's pizza is my favorite...since I was a teenager and it was a stand on the boardwalk...our waitress was great, friendly, we sat outside and had some drinks and pizza..the pizza hasn't changed! My sister came back up from NC craving grottos ...then we headed to the boardwalk in rehoboth and it was So sad Dolle's is closed/moving...I've been on this boardwalk and at Dolle's every summer since I was born, a year after the iconic sign was first put up...(1963) my family has had a place at the beach in DE since my grandparents were young.....my family just found out about this when we were on the boardwalk over memorial day weekend 2021...how can there not be Dolle's right there on that corner of Rehoboth Ave.?...it's been there my entire life...but I've skipped the last five years since we finally sold my grandparent's house..and I was too sad to go back. But my family all gathered and went back this year after covid. It's not even that I like salt water taffy or any of that candy....it's just that Dolle's being there represents Rehoboth and the more than 4 generations of my family who have spent their summers there. Always bought something from Dolle's as gifts...it's just sad. Everything changes! But after going there my entire life, my sister and I, my dad, my nephews were all shocked to see Dolle's closed on memorial day 2021. But I guess nothing about the past year and a half should shock me. Funland opened right around when I was born....it has meant so much too to all of the generations of kids in our family. So glad Grotto's is still going strong. And funland but we were really sad to see...
Read moreThe food was pretty decent but not great, especially for the price of their pizza. They still think they’re the only pizza joint around.
I give this location 1 star due to unsanitary conditions and managements lack of caring. When we ordered pizza a few weeks ago on the boardwalk, the people making the pizzas were clearly visible from the boardwalk. The guy putting toppings on the pizza wasn’t wearing gloves. I thought okay maybe he washed his hands and all he does is assemble pizzas. I was wrong… in between pizzas, he used his bare hands to fool around on his cell phone. The same bare hands used to make everyone’s pizzas.
Oh and we are still in a pandemic? A lot of people take their phones to the bathroom with them, and everywhere else they go. We’ve all heard about how dirty a phone can actually be.
I was relieved that the guy making the dough was wearing gloves. But wait… Mr Bare Hands On His Phone hands his cell phone to the dough man with the gloves still on. Now they’re both contaminated.
Also they were cooking pizzas with the receipt under the dough, so they knew whose pizza it was. Problem is, part of the receipt cooked into my pizza.
I sent a direct Facebook message to this location along with an email to the address that supposedly handles feedback & complaints. Guess what they said? Nothing. Not a single word or reply. This...
Read moreI recently dined at Grotto on the Rehoboth Boardwalk and despite the undeniable chaos and crowds, this place managed to uphold a standard of quality and service that left me thoroughly surprised.
Walking into the pizza place, I was immediately struck by the vibrant energy of the boardwalk atmosphere. The tables were packed, but despite the seemingly overwhelming demand, the staff worked seamlessly to accommodate everyone, and their commitment to delivering a quality dining experience was evident from the get-go.
The star of the show, of course, was the pizza. The crust was perfectly crisp, the sauce was flavorful, and the toppings were fresh and plentiful. It was, as always, a delicious product. Note: Due to our kids' preference, we ordered light sauce with extra cheese.
What truly set this place apart, however, was the superior service. Our server worked tirelessly and despite the hustle and bustle, we never felt rushed or overlooked.
In conclusion, Grotto exceeded my expectations in terms of both quality and service. Despite the overwhelming busyness, they managed to deliver a delicious pizza and provide a dining experience that felt personal and attentive. If you're willing to wait a little while for your meal, you'll be rewarded with a slice of beachside bliss that's well...
