I was spoiled by growing up in Ann Arbor, which had a truly phenomenal library system, but Richardson's library is pretty good for having 20% of the budget.
There's two things that I really like about Richardson Public Library:
1.) They make it pretty easy to pick up and drop off media through the reservation system. That coupled with the convenience of the library being at Arapaho and 75 makes it really easy to get the media you want from the library.
2.) They have a fairly large catalog of media.
There's two things that I wish Richardson Public Library would improve:
1.) I'd like to see Richardson start circulating Blu-Rays and video games. I understand that this content is more expensive to purchase and that Blu-Ray vs DVD can be confusing for some folks, but other libraries do it and have been doing it for more than a decade.
2.) Most libraries don't have very good web portals to request content. Richardson is no exception. It can sometimes be hard to find the specific book/DVD you are looking for, especially if it has a name that might also be a generic word. Additionally, the content (especially films) isn't always categorized correctly. For example, if you search for a movie, sometimes the "author" is the director, sometimes it's the title, and sometimes it's one of the...
Read moreThis library is really amazing when it comes to research. It holds easily found research books for every age. I come here with my siblings and we can all find something we like to read or need for school. I love studying on the third floor (I don't really go to the second), which is completely sectioned off from the rest of the library. It's almost always quiet in the whole library. I give only four stars though because I am not very fond of the staff there and the Teen section is kind of loud due to the children's section right next to it. I do not mind the noise in the children's section though because I loved reading when I was their age and you can't really control their noise level without making them leave. The staff however cannot seem to control their volume. At the front desk in the first floor the women chitchat loudly and are constantly slamming things around. I can hear all of it easily from the Teen section. Even on the third floor they will talk when they walk around. I would caution young women going up or down the stairs though. I felt I was being followed very closely once and have bought pepperspray, never using the...
Read moreFirst time visiting this library in this area. It was pretty busy on a Sunday afternoon. I sat right next to the area of the adult books. There weren't a lot of seating to study at. I noticed some tables 4 to 5 people were sitting at a small table to study, it wasn't a lot of room to spread out. I brought my own laptop to use, and had some issues connecting. I asked the tech guys in the middle section. The guy on the end was helpful but also seemed as if he was very busy. I had 4 to 5 questions and seemed to figure it out on my own. The librarians at the front office were nice and gave good information. They switched shift with ladies, I didn't have much interaction with them. I had students come up and ask me questions for help with the printers. I didn't mind helping since they didn't speak English. They should have someone there who speaks Spanish to help with Spanish speakers. Also, staff could be a bit more friendlier. Overall my rating is an 3 because of interaction with staff and overall quality of the atmosphere. I was able to get everything done. But those tidbits to increase quality it could...
