DO NOT be fooled by the five-star reviews. Jean (owner & trainer) asked meāand others in the gymāto leave a glowing review just 2ā3 months after joining. He even told me exactly what to write. So yes, I was one of those 5-star reviewers, but now that Iāve seen the full picture, I need to warn others.
I paid $289/month for 10 months (almost $3,000) for what was marketed as āgroup personal training,ā but itās not that at all. Thereās minimal personal attention. Workouts are repetitive and barely change after the first month. Little to no form correctionāJean is often on his phone or watching TV during sessions instead of coaching.
During the scorching Texas summer, Jean turns off the AC to save on electricity. Multiple clients, including myself, raised concerns because it was unbearable, but he insisted itās ābetterā to work out in the heat. It isnāt scienceāitās just cheap and inconsiderate. Working out in this heat actually gave me skin rashes and acne. The floor mats also had a strong, musty odor suggesting they hadnāt been cleaned in years, absorbing layers of sweat.
The gym has only two benches, which are often taken. I had to do bench exercises like the bench press on the floor. When I raised concerns, Jean told me I had to do it on the floor and that if I wanted a bench, I should come early. Equipment is limited, so most workouts are mat-based because he wonāt invest in more. Even the few machinesālike the assisted pull-up machineāhave torn knee pads and sweaty, worn-down grips that feel unhygienic.
As for cancellingāitās deliberately hard. While there is technically an online form, itās buried deep in the website. I was going through health issues and a personal crisis. I tried searching for the form but couldnāt find it. When I finally got better, I asked for a refund for the 3 unused months due to my health and personal challenges. He refused outright, offering only the option to āuse them wheneverā instead of a refund. When I pressed him about it, he actually said: āthatās how all gyms make money, by people signing up but not coming.ā I found that shockingly unprofessional. I agreed only because he said he doesnāt do refundsāso it wasnāt a real choice. Over two years I couldnāt use those sessions and still canāt, but Jean has been completely inflexible about refunding $900 for services he never delivered. As a customer, I shouldnāt have to fight for my own money back for services I never receivedāespecially for $900. More than caring about customers, heās greedy about money. He seems to see everyone as cash cows.
When I asked about this again recently, he threatened to sue me if I share my experience publicly. I find that extremely unprofessional. He also disclosed in texts that heās had ongoing health issues for years and still does. Personally, I donāt want to train with someone who isnāt fully focused on client safety, especially given that one of my friends at the same gym fractured his hand during workouts there and has been unable to use his hand for months, stuck in physical therapy.
Despite going regularly for 7 months, I saw absolutely no change in my body or results. I feel like I completely wasted nearly $3,000 on these sessions. All Iāve been asking for is a refund for $900 worth of sessions I couldnāt use, and he hasnāt been flexible about that at all.
The bottom line: This gym may seem appealing at first, but look carefully at the fine print and consider the real experience. Thereās very little personal coaching, questionable safety and professionalism, and zero flexibility or compassion if you hit real-life challenges. I regret spending my money here, and I hope my honest experience helps others make an...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI signed up for Jeanetix fitness over 6 months ago, having been used to training by myself at a change in where I felt I was doing pretty well but needed some guidance.
Even on the trial day I was exhausted and pushed to my limits, which to be honest had demoralized me. I was a fit person back then too, and having something like this happen initially made me want to stick to working out alone. But thinking more about it that week, I had been challenged more in the span of one hour than I had in any of my previous inefficient, 2 hour plus gym sessions alone. Plus, during the trial day, I was using weights I had previously considered too light, not correct for what I had in mind, as I had been training with much heavier weights.
I signed up, ready to give it a shot. Quickly I saw the benefits - flexibility, cardio, weight loss simultaneous to muscle gain. Every day, Jean was right there with me, guiding me, making me stronger, lighter. It didn't matter that the weights were lighter - in fact this increased my cardio, my flexibility, my efficiency and more than when I was lifting much heavier. I'm much more fit now than before. More recently, Riley joined as well and is another fantastic trainer. I'm in the best shape of my life thanks to Jeanetix fitness and I've only just started.
The gym is kept incredibly clean, has more than enough equipment, and the atmosphere is great. Workouts are interesting and will keep your body guessing. What you put in, you get out.
Thanks, Jeanetix Fitness! Happy to be a part...
