New favorite artist? Thornton Dial, his work along with many of his extended family were part of the My Way, African American Art from the Black South.
Thornton’s art is playful and sophisticated while retaining a real outsider feel. This man knew what he was doing.
He clearly passed on his love for the creative process to many of his family members who also had pieces included in the show.

Read moreThis is a very clean and pleasant gallery which had friendly staff. Covid-19 complaint personnel and a welcome air conditioned break from the outdoor activities in the summer heat. We thoroughly enjoyed most of the art, and had fun sharing our displeasure with the rest. Just when we thought we were done, we realized there was a basement with even more art! We didn't find the music too loud or distracting on our visit as others have commented, and even found the selection enjoyable.
