Acoustically, terrific; comfort, horrendous. Attended Rockford Symphony's charming scoring of The Wizard of Oz. Seats were, alas, nosebleeds, and we didn't expect posh seating accommodations. Nonetheless, in an effort to squeeze as many sardines into the upper boxes, management has opted for seats that are, to put it mildly, confining. I'm a svelte 160 lbs., and I felt so restricted (a situation exacerbated by the not-so-svelte, and not-so-aware-of-the-concept-of-personal-space gentleman seated next to me who managed to seize control of the armrest and sort of ooze over in to my space), situational claustrophobia got the better of me, and I left at intermission.
Other than that, Mrs Lincoln, the performance was flawless (save the very occasional lapse by whomever was coordinating the volume of the movie with the orchestration that caused the former to be drowned out by the latter...).
So, a disappointment in execution, but a musical delight. (I had never really noticed how "wall-to-wall" the score of the movie was until seeing the orchestra in action! They earned their per diem that night!)
As for the facility, it was my first visit (translated NYC native). The facility is a tad garish, though, in fairness, it was not uncommon for the time of its construction, and I was informed that recent renovations were intended to recreate that original venue. Acoustically, it was magnificent. Orchestrally, pitch perfect. The concert master (mistress?)/first violin is extremely talented. Unfortunately, the position of the movie screen combined with the altitude of our seats (i can't say for certain, but I believe there were cloud formations...), left much of the orchestra hidden (i took it as an article of faith that all brass and woodwind performances weren't...
Read moreMy wife and I were scammed in a ticket purchase on StubHub for a show at the Coronado PAC. All this happened less than two hours prior to the show, so in an act of desperation, I called the Coronado PAC box office to see if they still had tickets left. I explained to the representative my situation, and he was happy to help me purchase tickets for the event that evening.
Despite my explanation, the box office enforced a policy of charging an additional $21 fee for processing my card information over the phone. I would understand if the fee was a few extra bucks, but $21 extra is ridiculous. I pleaded with the rep to waive the fee due to my situation, but he said they couldn't do that as per their office policy. I asked if they could hold the tickets for us and allow for us to pay at the window. He said they could not do that for us either. In the end, I had to pay the additional $21 fee.
I understand my original situation occurred with a third-party re-sale website, and I am currently working with them to receive a full refund for my order. I work in the entertainment industry in ticket sales, and if this same situation occurred with one of my clients, I would do everything in my power to avoid having them pay any additional fees or surcharges, in order to provide quality customer service and create a more satisfying experience for my client. I would expect the same level of customer service from any other venue, but was very much disappointed with how this box office staff handled my situation.
The lack of courtesy, empathy and professionalism from the Coronado PAC box office staff really put a damper on what was otherwise a great event at a lovely venue. This will be my wife and I's first and last time attending an event at the...
