The four course tasting that Scott and I won at Rocky Horror Picture Show Trivia Night Hosted by the Coronado Theatre & 27 Aluna was truly exceptional.
The first course consisted of a fresh watermelon salad, topped with crunchy wontons and a delicious white citrus dressing. Scott noted that he had never had watermelon in a salad before and found that it made the watermelon taste less watery. 😂 The chef then presented us with Hawaiian bao-rittos!!! This dish, which is an omage to a dish that had been removed from the menu years ago, brought back fond memories and allowed us to appreciate its uniqueness, as we had not encountered anything like it since its removal.
Chef Patrick Alberto then introduced the entree, a braised short rib inside a ravioli covered in a rich and decadent savory white chocolate sauce. We appreciated the opportunity to thank him for such an experience before dessert. For which we were served a firm bread pudding with a nutty flavor, topped with a sweet white chocolate sauce and strawberry compote, achieving a perfect balance between sweet and savory and tying together the sweetness of the entire meal.
We paired our feast with the fall fashion/chocolate cherry sangria cocktails and shared espresso martinis. By the time we returned home, we were ready to retire to bed to watch a spooky movie with warm, satisfied stomachs. Our dinner at 27 ALUNA at Octane was excellent, and we look forward to returning soon. Many thanks! Scott 27 ALUNA at Octane
Happy birthday, Scott, I love you and I'm so happy that I could win you this special birthday dinner just by knowing that it was a lightning bolt on the flag in Rocky horror...
Read moreHistorically we have loved Octane with our whole family. We have been going here since it opened with our younger children. We have three boys, two of which are teenagers now, and our three year old. We visited today with our 3 year old, and we were quite disappointed that there were no menu options for kids. We then inquired with our waitress about this and we were told that the chef could make a smaller portion of mac and cheese, chicken tenders (chicken from the bao sandwich), or a smaller kids burger. We chose the burger. When it came, we laughed because of its size. We thought nothing of it, as we have ordered kids things before that were more of adult size portion. Upon receiving the bill however, we were disappointed to find that we were charged for a full size burger that was more expensive than many of the adult options on the menu. With regret, we choose to no longer frequent Octane, as it appears they have chosen a less family friendly experience. The atmosphere is great, staff is friendly, but if we can’t bring our child with us, then we will not be able to come back.
Note: we did bring this situation to our servers attention that evening, and all we were told is that she appreciated our feedback. I was literally at Octane the Friday before this with my Dad before we attended an IceHogs game. I love to support local. It’s not about the money, but a $16 burger for a 3 year old just doesn’t make much sense. I don’t expect a run of the mill kids menu, in fact I don’t even like that, but I do expect options for...
Read moreThe atmosphere was great!!! Art on the walls, soft lighting, very clean restrooms & great wait staff as far as being polite, but not very informative.
The food however was not as good as it should have been for the pricing. We ordered a Mushroom soup which was amazing,, nachos which I just assumed came with meat, but didn't, the chese was overly spicy, there were peppers everywhere, but it was not worth the price, Although the waitress was nice I wished she had given me more information because it was my first time there.
My sister ordered the noodles, which had a great flavor, but they were undercooked, so instead of offering her a new order, because they were $13.00, the waitress took the bowl and said, "i'll.have the cook just throw them on a little longer.
My niece & sister say that the food was really good & maybe it normally is, but for the pricing I expected much more. I'm really passive, so I didn't say anything, and although I wanted desert, wasn't willing to spend more money to be disappointed.
Overall, the food was overpriced for the quality of the meal, the undercooked noodles, just seems for $13.00 a new order would have been appropriate.
When I ordered nachos, didn't know it was without meat, but when I asked for chicken, the waitress should have mentioned it was an extra $4 or $5 for a few chunks of chicken.
I like to try new restaurants & enjoy a night out twice a month, but I was...
