Paperdoll Boutique — Attraction in Rockford

Update: Changing to 4 stars, the owner reached out to me and apologized for the whole issue and was very interested in resolving the situation. I’m happy to shop there again to restore my previous opinion of them.

I’ve been a big fan of Paperdoll ever since it opened and have spent hundreds and hundred of dollars there over the years. I moved out of town about a decade ago but try to come back and shop there when I’m able. This year, I made the trip over 2 hours to shop the sidewalk sales at paperdoll. After I had figured out which items I was going to purchase, I was looking around at the jewelry case. The cashier kindly offered to hold the items I was going to buy behind the counter for me so I wouldn’t have to carry them around. Just few minutes later I went to check out, paid for everything and left. The next morning I went to get the clothing items out of my bag from PD- I had gotten home late previously the night before and didn’t have time to take things out of the bag- and I immediately noticed that the item I had wanted the most wasn’t in the bag. I checked my receipt and luckily I hadn’t been charged for it but immediately called the store and left a message as they weren’t open yet, explaining that they must’ve forgotten to include that item when they were checking out my other items and asked them to call me back asap. At PD the previous evening, I didn’t notice she missed the item since I had purchased multiple items totaling about $200. I never heard back from PD so I called a little bit after they opened and spoke to an employee and relayed my concern. She acted like she couldn’t care less about the issue but with my thorough description said she found one in a size small but not an xs, when an xs was one I had tried to purchase the previous evening but I figured a sm was better than nothing. She never apologized or anything even close to it for the mishap. She said they don’t hold items but that she would ‘set it aside’ for the day. Since I had already returned home, I begged my aunt to go and pick it up for me. My aunt got there and made sure to triple check and confirmed it was a size small. She immediately purchased the item and returned to her car. Since she is a very thorough person, she checked the item and noticed that SOMEHOW between the immediate turnaround of her double checking the item size and the cashier checking her out, she had given my aunt a medium. My aunt went immediately back into the store and the cashier told my aunt they had sold that last small just a few minutes ago to a girl who had thought she was purchasing that medium size they had given my aunt…My aunt left them with my number and they said they’d call if the girl with the size sm came back (all over the store they say sidewalk sales are final sale so I doubt that girl thought she could come back and return it) and naturally I never heard from them. Just an insane series of mistakes from PD with little to no acknowledgment or apology or fixes regarding their errors. Luckily I was able to find the same shorts in the correct size at another store but had to pay an additional $20 since they’re not on sale which I’m not happy about just due to Paperdoll’s incompetence. This is never how I would’ve expected to be treated by a small business in the town I grew up in as an extremely loyal customer for years. I sadly don’t think I can say this is one of my favorite...

Absolutely LOVE the Paperdoll Boutique!!! The selections are stylish and unique so you don’t have to worry about everyone in town having the same outfit as you. They are 100% on trend with the modern women. Moreover, the staff is super helpful and knowledgeable. They are all upbeat and eggar to help you find pieces that make you feel as beautiful as you naturally look. I recently bought a pair of jeans from them and I have never felt better about myself!
