🄢 Dinner + a show = perfection at Kyoto šŸ”„šŸ£ #hibachi #dallas #texas #japanese #steakhouse

Tonight we headed out to Kyoto Japanese Steakhouse in Rockwall for a hibachi dinner. Many were celebrating a special occasion, but we were just celebrating Thursday. This place used to be Carrabba's Italian Grill in a past life, but today is home to what Lakeside Living Magazine calls ā€œThe Best Asian Cuisine in Rockwall/Rowlettā€. Well, I dispute this claim because I believe Koung Thai Restaurant is ā€œThe Best Asian Cuisineā€ but with that said Kyoto is my favorite for Hibachi. Not that we have too many options, since Edo Japan Rockwall removed its hibachi tables long who and now only serves from the kitchen. Kyoto has a nice layout, and feels newer and fresher than its sister restaurant on 66 in Rowlett. We were sat promptly and our drink orders taken. Team waiting was in effect so refills came fast and often. Soup and Salad was included with the meal and the soup in particular was on point. Several people ordered rolls for appetizers and we shared a ā€œTornado Rollā€ which was fried, and had cream cheese, crab and jalapeƱo with a spicy sauce. Perfection. The shows here, are very good. Better than average. Behind us the chef had lasers, set his hat on fire, and juggled knifes. The effects, comedy and skill on display was better than what you typically see at a Hibachi restaurant. Super high marks for that. The fried rice, was phenomenal. Not too much seasoning, not too much egg, and not too mushy. Flavorful, satisfying. It was gone before anything else was done cooking. The shrimp was amazing, the chicken was ā€œokā€ and the steak was very good. Even cooked medium I felt it was more of a medium rare, very soft and juicy. I loved it. As a bonus they give you some noodles at the end, which is not always common, so that made up for the rice that I had already eaten. All together, I think it was a great experience, with the service, ambience and food quality all hitting high marks. The price seemed in line with most hibachi places, which is high, which is why you see so many people only utilizing it for special occasions. I will be back, but because of the pricing probably just 1-2 more times this year. If you like Hibachi, Kyoto in Rockwall is a great choice.

Our first time trying Kyoto and it wasn't such a terrible experience as I've heard before. Once we arrived we were told the wait time for the hibachi grill was 30 minutes, but the bar was open or we could wait in the seating area. So we ended up waiting at the bar for about 30+ mins, then we were taken to our hibachi table where we waited for another 15 mins for our waiter to show up. Who might I add wasn't at all attentive, very forgetful (he never turned the order in for my hibachi noodles, so I never got them and gave me the wrong salad dressing three different times); he just seemed as if he was cold and distant even when present. Now while we waited for our chef, we enjoyed hibachi soup (which tasted like a rich broth but my daughter LOVED it), house salad (didn't care for the homemade dressing which tasted like straight onions) and sushi which was Crab sticks (tasty and my daughter LOVED them). Finally, another 20 mins pass and our chef has arrived. He was everything! Funny, attentive, energetic and interacted with each of us; not just collectively but also individually. Our family had the fried rice (which is $3 extra), Teriyaki Chicken, Filet Mignon & Hibachi Shrimp with all the vegetables. Every thing was good but could be better with a little more flavoring. The overall experience wasn't bad but it also wasn't great. The $65 bill was okay as well. We had a ton of food, plus appetizer, so the price was expected. We enjoyed the night as a family and we will be back.

I’m not one to complain and I never post reviews but this experience was horrible. I went today with my boyfriend for my birthday and the chef that I’ve been using for 2 years left so I was already apprehensive to go because most other chefs there have not been the best in the past, but I decided to give it a shot. We sat down and ordered and it was an hour before they close for lunch, so we planned to be in and out so they could close on time, another family joined about 15 minutes later so the chef had to wait longer to come out. When he did he was in a rush and my whole order was messed up. I did not get the filet mignon I ordered, I believe it was switched with someone else at the table who ordered regular steak. So I let them know and they told me it was filet mignon but they would recook it. (It had a lot of fat on it, which the other 50 or so filets I’ve ordered in the past never had besides a little bit) not only that but the rice had no flavor other than an insane amount of pepper, and I was the only one at the table who requested no veggies in the rice, but instead no one at the table was given the veggies they ordered including my bf who specifically ordered it the normal way. Also I asked for no onions at all and received onions in my veggies. Also when they brought out the filet to remake, the chef seemed impatient and annoyed and rushed through making it. I’ve been coming here for two years and I love this place, but this experience really ruined it for me, and unfortunately I most likely won’t be returning. I do feel bad for the requests that I have but I also usually tip 20$+ to the chef himself to compensate the extra work, but this was just extremely disappointing and on my birthday no less. I will say the waitress, Aliyah, was amazing and quick to fix the problems as...

I have been to this location multiple times yet on this instance I was very disappointed. We had an 8 o'clock reservation for 6 we arrived at 7:30 Is to wait at the bar for our reservation because we know that our table can be early sometimes. Our host that checked us in called me at 8:10 asking if you were going to show up or cancel a reservation. I let her know we were sitting at the bar and ready to go to the table they said nobody checked you in... we went to the table And there were 2 young ladies already seated. Afetr speaking with them they said they've been sitting there for about 15 minutes. At this point we waited and waited until about 9:35 Before the chef actually showed up. After speaking with the manager She came to the table and presented us with free appetizer coupons For the next time we come visit. When my check arrived the young lady sitting next to me were spoken to by the waitress and told that their comped. I'm not mistaken as these were their words and I was listening and I told the girls congratulations they asked me how they should tip and I said you tip on your service because the waitress and the chef did not make the mistake. They did or happy and they carried on with their evening. I on the other hand got no kind of discount whatsoever. After speaking the manager one more time the manager said oh no the table next to us paid for those girls's bill. That table happened to be congregated outside and park next to me. I spoke with the gentleman that had taken the bill and he said no he didn't pay After I told him how generous it was of him to pay for those young ladies male. I am very disappointed in...
