A fantastic idea that needs a bit more fleshing out. I saw this place when researching things to do in Roswell (we decided to stop on our way to Carlsbad) when we arrived and the gift shop/lobby was somewhat crowded and there is limited seating. The wait wasn't overly long but be aware, for those uncomfortable with people being close together in relatively small spaces.
The staff are great and go out of their way to help you have fun with your stay, starting with "security questions" so be sure to leave your flux capacitors at home!
There are some nice touches to help you suspend disbelief, an airlock that slides open (but needs some cleaning, there's a black stripe where a wheel in the mechanism rubs it), then you enter a briefing area that is designed to look somewhat like an airport terminal. You then receive the briefing specific to the scenario you chose.
After the briefing, your party is taken to your "pod" and given some additional instructions before the adventure begins. The scenario takes about 20 minutes and you'll likely find yourself spinning around on the barstool provided and craning your neck to catch everything. Good fun.
A note of warning. Without thinking, we took our 7 year old daughter with us on the Area 51 scenario and she didn't enjoy the light violence. The fantastic staff member switched her over to a video about a bumbling robot which she thoroughly enjoyed. Again, the staff really work hard to help you enjoy your stay with them.
The graphic quality for the scenarios is equivalent to some older first person shooters.
I do have a few recommendations. They should move the waiting area into the terminal and add seating. This will help people feel like they're waiting to catch a flight. Convert a pod to a briefing room. This may cut down on how many customers you can serve at a time but may help to improve the experience. Alternatively include the briefing as part of the scenario, in the pods. Complete construction. The pods are missing ceilings and doors so everyone can hear each other. This also will help with the suspension of disbelief. Likewise, ceiling for the terminal and halls to the pods. Rethink the furnishings, a wire basket doesn't scream far future and neither do the barstools.
Take or leave, just some thoughts. We enjoyed our experience and will visit again if we roll back...
Read moreUPDATE: I wanted to update. I had someone from Spaceport Rosewell contact me about my issues and they took great steps in rectifying the situation!!!! Amazing customer service. Most businesses do not go out of their way to make sure their customers are satisfied or to fix a situation and the owner of this company did! For that reason alone I want to give them 5 stars and we will be back again on our next trip! Thank you for taking the time to fix this!! I was really disappointed in this. We visited two other "ufo" type places and this one was my least favorite and we spent the most money here. The staff was very friendly. We sat for about 10 minutes before we were seated inside. We did the one that was a view from the aliens point of view. The first few minutes my daughter couldnt see anything that was going on. Her headset didnt work so we had to pause it to get her a new one then half way in my husbands set didnt work and we had to pause it again. It was really short for the money that was spent. I personally wouldnt recommend it and...
Read moreThis had potential but it’s incredibly disappointing and overpriced. We paid for the bundle with the Bricktown scavenger hunt and Spaceport, over $80 for two kids and two adults.
The 1947 virtual reality is only about 10 mins long. They missed every opportunities for a better experience. They could add vibration or fans or anything to make it more interactive instead of just sitting in a chair with no arms or support that you can easily fall out of from the jump scares or if you get easily dizzy from VR motion.
The storyline itself ended up being propaganda where they try to convince you of a conspiracy theory.
Probably the worst part is there is no warning for those with weak stomachs or especially wartime PTSD. One part shows someone almost drilling into the alien’s head with a power drill. After that there is sudden gunfire with most of it shooting directly at you in the VR.
Overall an incredibly underwhelming and disappointing...
