This review is mainly about the underground walking tour. Keep in mind, the ticket price includes entry into the museum. Definitely leave time before or after the tour to peruse this space.
Being a newish member of the West Coast, I was excited to learn more about the state that I chose to call home. Sacramento has such rich history and this tour did a great job of encasing you in it.
At the tour's start we were greeted by a woman dressed in era-appropriate attire. She sprinkled facts about her "personal" life throughout and seamlessly referred to cars as "horseless carriages." I think she could've been a little more animated, but those little details helped elevate the experience.
Visitors are given headsets so the tour guide can continue talking while walking the bustling streets of Old Sacramento. Unfortunately, my headphones were finicky at times; fortunately, the worst of it happened right as we entered the first underground space.
I absolutely love exploring historic towns and this reminded me of Colonial Williamsburg. Entertainment for all ages!
Sidenote, my fiancé and I learned about this tour after stumbling upon a different one at the Stanford Mansion on N street which I also...
Read moreI went to the Underground After Hours Tour here yesterday and all I have to say about it is DON'T DO IT! Its a waste of time and money. Let me give you a couple of reasons as to why that is. The description they gave of this tour sounded awesome online! They described it as a spooky paranormal experience where we would encounter ghosts as we traveled through tunnels or walkways underground. The sad reality is that we walked above ground from destination to destination as our tour guide gave us a history lesson of random people and facts that I had zero interest in. And these so called underground destinations where basements of old buildings where they had exhibits of bottles, chairs, pots, cans and etc... The so called paranormal experience they claimed to have, sadly consisted of us looking at a building from the street as the tour guide talked about the ghost the that apparently existed there. The worse part was I took my lady here thinking that this was gonna be a fun date! I was bored to tears and sadly my date was too. Don't make the same mistake as I did... ( Btw this tour does not even deserve the one star review I am giving it, but it is required in order for me to...
Read moreIt was interesting seeing all the pictures and listening to the historical events that happened but the staff was very rude. I wanted to see more of the museum it look very well put together. We were all rushed out so fast the kids barely had time to look at everything. When the kids did the panning for gold there was an older woman and man who were very mean towards the kids rushing them to hurry. There was a rude woman who stood at the door and said we had to wait to go into the gift shop which was fine I understood it was full but when the kids raised their hands she yelled "put your hands down and go wait". She was even saying how she had to constantly watch the door and kept complaining about it due to all the other people coming in as well. The staff barely knew how to add up all the items in the gift shop on the computer and don't offer receipts while they made several mistakes. This was supposed to be an educational fun event for the kids and they did the complete opposite. It's sad because it looks like a cool place for kids to learn about history but with staff like that makes you want to learn...
