American Legion Park — Attraction in Saint Ignace

I had a not very ambitious plan of swimming in all 5 great lakes during our vacation. It was not a very challenging task considering we were in Michigan, Ohio and Ontario, but based offour itinerary, the most accessible place to swim in Huron on our trip which wouldn't put us out of our way was at this beach. Surprisingly even though Huron is a warmer lake than Superior, the water here was a lot colder than at Brimley the previous day. This was a great play area for kids. Many slides and places to climb. There are benches around the structure for parents to sit. There is a good distance to the shore of lake Huron to go between playing on the structure and swim. The beach area is a bit rocky. It is dog friendly. There is parking at either end. Wonderful little park. A relaxing place to sit on a bench and enjoy the views of Mackinac Island and Round Island to the East and South East, and the Saint Martin Islands to the North East. Though be mindful that there are usually clouds of midges during the midge season (late May to mid June).
