Booked last minute once I found ferries were only running from St. Ignace and not Mackinaw City in early April. I took Indian Trails bus from Lansing to St. Ignace to move up to Island for summer. I was scheduled to arrive after 10:30 pm and needed a spot to stay until ferries ran in the morning. Since my bus was not crowded, we were able to skip tops which allowed us to get into St. Ignace an hour early which was a relief. When I showed up to hotel (which is right next to bus station) there were zero cars in the lot, but the front door was open and the doors to the lobby were closed, and lights were shut off. I called the hotel, no answer. I called again, left a voicemail trying to figure out what was going on. Two minutes later, I receive a call back from hotel asking how they can help. I explained that I had a reservation and property appeared closed. The gentleman said "we are open, your keys are on top of the lock box in the vestibule with your name on them. The door around back is unlocked". Sure enough, the keys with my FULL name on the key jacket were sitting out in the open, for anyone to take. As a hotel manager, that is a huge security issue, and is a terminatable offense at any of my properties. Essentially, you can get someone's name, room number, steal a key and break into that room at any time you'd like to. I only bring this up in hoping the hotel changes this procedure in the future and realizes how real hotels operates. When I went around back there were two cars in the parking lot and they put me in a room located withing 5 feet from the indoor pool (worst possible place to put someone looking for peace and quiet at an empty hotel). I entered the room, and it was incredibly dated, which I anticipated but the furniture was scratched with drawers falling apart. the carpet was covered in dirt as if someone wore work boots before me and it was not vacuumed after. The sink had a packaged bar of soap with long hair all over the counter. The BEST part of it all was next to the TV (that may be 14 inches), there was a white powdery substance on the damaged bureau that was in the formation of a line...most likely cocaine or a crushed-up pill. There clearly is no trained housekeeping here at all. Needless to say there was no one to complain to because the lobby was shut down at 9:30 with scheduled arrivals, so I was screwed. I slept fully clothed on top of the sheets and bailed as soon as I could the next morning. This is clearly a hotel purchased by someone who had the money to do so yet has zero hospitality skills and no staff. When I got to my job on the island, I heard similar horror stories from my team that has been here for years. In the last three weeks, I have stayed at four hotels for work and have not left a single review. This dump warrants a negative review. Easily the worst hotel I have stayed at my entire life, even if you take my profession out of the equation...Stay...

We booked our stay a few months ago. ($350) for a king bed with a jacuzzi tub for 2 nights. The pictures were of course, nothing like the property. First, our reservation had a check in of 3pm, and a checkout of 11am. No problem. Except we get there and it's a 4pm check in and a 10am checkout. Okay fine. We also booked under the guise of continental breakfast. Which is immediately plastered all over the lobby that they do not serve breakfast. Okay, bummer but they still have a pool and hottub. We sign a paper at check in that says no refund after check in (should've been red flag #1). It also says that any signs of pets, is a $250 charge/fee. Okay we don't have pets. We finally get checked in and into our rooms. Immediately I find dog hair on the floor, and dust all over the stands/TV/coffee maker(see pictures) almost like it hadn't been wiped down at all. There was also what looked like water damage and a giant crack directly above our bed. We decided to check out the pool, which was filled with dirt in the bottom, and the hottub clearly had paint chipping away all over (see more pics). Then we noticed what looked to be a toe nail...on the floor by the pool (also pictured) . At this point, the lobby is closed with only an option to call someone. But with no refunds after check in, we were pretty much stuck. We stuck it out for a 2 night stay, and there was not a single other person or employee in that building the entire time. There was a utility closet on the 2nd floor left wide open, with an entire ring if keys on the handle, and liquor on the shelves inside. This closet was left that way the entire weekend. All in all, I would've left immediately if I could've been refunded. The location was nice, but someone is intentionally running this hotel...

On the website for the Voyager Inn it talks about the recent updates they have made (including locks for the rooms???!!??), but there were no updates in our room. It was filthy and gross. There was an abundance of black mold in the bathroom. The bathroom fan would work for about 30 seconds then stop. In addition to the unsightly stains on the bathroom floor it was filthy with dirt. The towels were thin and rough, like they had been taken from an old YMCA and reused. When you turned on the sink faucet there was a high pitched noise. We were afraid to put our bags on the chairs because they were so dirty and stained. The carpet was stained and dingy. The furniture was old and broken. The "updated" tv was maybe 19". We booked a room with two queen beds, but they were full size. The mildew smell in the room was awful.
We booked there because of the location and stayed there because we arrived after a long day on Mackinac Island and, because the interior of the room was so shabby, felt that if we would try to switch to another room we would have more of the same and my kids were exhausted. I wish my husband had read the reviews before booking! When we got there around 10pm there was only five or six cars in the parking lot, including the back parking lot. I can't imagine how many health codes were violated (see the reviews about the ants in the hot tub and the windows that were painted shut).
Based on the other reviewers who were charged more than they should have been and also charged months after their stay in addition to the charges from the stay, we will be watching our statements closely for...
