TL;DR: This is my favorite art store in every way. Fun, helpful, good selection. Long version: I've been learning watercolor for a few years and last year I was ready to start upgrading my student-grade materials to something nicer. I stumbled upon Blick Art by accident and have not gone anywhere else since. Their prices are great. They also have bulk discounts and teacher discounts. And they run good sales throughout the year on different things so you can stock up on stuff over time. The staff are the best. I'm just a hobbyist artist so while I'm not clueless about everything, I still don't know like 90% of what there is to know. I often feel intimidated in specialty stores -- whether it's just my own self-consciousness or because of how employees act -- who knows. But I've NEVER had that experience at Blick. The staff are so friendly and they will offer help without any judgement. They also give you their honest opinions about materials; I've never worried that they are just upselling me on anything. Whenever I visit I tell the person my skill level, the kinds of projects I'm working on or materials I'm looking into, and my price range and they guide me through the process of how to choose the best thing based on the criteria. The selection is huge. Especially because a lot of the higher-end suppliers have limited web presence / you can't buy at Amazon, you can find so much stuff here. I've also learned about a lot of supplies/methods I'd haven't heard of before so I actually go here about once a week just to browse and take a look at all the fun things. So this might be a small thing (also influenced by the fact that I'm not an artist, just a rookie) but I have been so frustrated by the emphasis on "crafts" at arts and crafts stores. I'm always disappointed with I go somewhere like Michael's and not only are their prices so high, but their selection is so limited. But the emphasis at Blick is on art supplies. Like I said, that might be surprising to no one except me, but I'm still...
Read moreOMG!! I'm in heaven I mean Blick Art Material's. I have been a artist for 35yrs and today was the 1st time I've been to B.A.M. in Surgarhouse and if anyone is looking for great prices and great supplies for almost any type of art that you are in, and the customer service was great from a knowledgeable young women that helped me see and locate the products that i was interested in. This was my dream store for my future art supplies and i was about to spend quit a bit for the supplies that were stolen from my home the day prior however while i was looking around i notice a older gentlemen hovering over me and following me threw out the store i felt like i was being stocked, targeted and threatened because i was wearing my dirty work clothes i felt that he assumed that I was a thieve which caused a major anxiety attack so i left B.A.M. very upset hence the one star. i will not return to B.A.M. becauseof your employee that did those things to me and also threatened me of calling the police because , in his own words and i quote "because you are being rude" and in my defence i was "being rude" because of what he did to me i feel like anyone would have felt threatened in a way. If anyone goes shopping here dont go dressed in your work clothes he might think your going to steal something. i really wanted to go back to that great art place and i do apoligize for the bad review but if anyone could tell me what i should or could do next in this situation please give some thoughts and opinions. I also wanted the owners and the staff to know about the scary looking stalker that they have working for them or with them and i hope i can return in the future because the supplies and products that you offer would be perfect for my business. Read moreStepping into Blick Art Supplies in Salt Lake City felt like crossing into a hidden, magical realm—a cave of wonders, if you will. The doors creaked open, and suddenly, I was surrounded by a dazzling array of treasures: paints, brushes, sketchpads, and tools as far as the eye could see, each more magnificent than the last.
The air was thick with the promise of endless creative potential. Shelves stretched high like towering walls of gold and jewels, each aisle beckoning with its own unique bounty. There were inks in shimmering hues, brushes so fine they could paint dreams, and canvases that seemed to whisper, "Choose me, and create something unforgettable."
The staff were like wise keepers of this enchanted space, guiding us with ease through the maze of supplies, offering sage advice on everything from the finest brushstrokes to the perfect shade of ochre. Their knowledge seemed infinite, like they had unlocked the secrets of creativity itself.
But beware—lingering too long here can have consequences. The allure of “buy one, get one” deals can easily transform your basket from a few necessary items into a treasure chest of impulse buys. And yet, how could I resist? Every item seemed like a key to unlocking new artistic adventures.
In the end, I left with an arm full of wonders and minds brimming with ideas. This is no ordinary art store; it’s a magical place where creativity is king, and every artist leaves richer than when they came.
Five stars...
