First: location. Just off State Street, in the alley just south of Decades Vintage Clothing (and other delights, but that’s another review). Very welcoming industrial vintage retro vibe with painted white brick, 100 year old oak floors, bright sunny windows, and remnants of the pulleys and working elements of an age gone by, the vibe is decidedly calm, but energetic. There isn’t the loud roar of hairdryers you get in the self-proclaimed hip or cutting edge salons. Just friendly, welcoming stylists going about their business. Not all up in your face faux friendly until they see you’re not their next appointment! Just honestly professional and that is so refreshing. Second, but really first in terms of importance. Stylist Kyle Moore! I’m an older client, been to some of the best salons in the world. Flat out, Kyle gave me my best haircut of my life. He cuts dry which is much harder, but more advantageous for both stylist and client in that you both can see exactly how your hair is behaving. He cut my fine lank hair into a shoulder length bob with invisible feathered layers. Blew it out straight, no curling irons, etc, no hairspray. 2 compliments from passers by on my way home! Third: You know how sometimes (or usually, in my experience) you have to rush home and re-do your hair style even though you got a decent cut? Not the case with Mr. Moore. I twist my hair up to sleep, and when I took it down this morning, sha! It fell so beautifully, I could have walked out the door! That, my friends, is the Mark of a superb cutting genius. Kyle listens, asks pertinent questions and intuits, somehow, exactly what you were thinking. If you want a cut that lives like you do, only more stylishly, book with...
Read moreThis review isn't so much for the salon itself, but the stylist Ashlyn that I saw. It's been almost a year since I have seen her, so I am not sure if she still works there, but she absolutely ruined my hair and charged me an arm and a leg to do it. I've wanted to write this review sooner, but have been so upset and hate drama, but feel the need to save any other girls from the same experience. I wanted to go blonde, her instagram promotes it and everything looks great. I didn't mind paying good money for a good dye job. She dragged out the process to 5 appointments and on the last appt before I quit seeing her she FRIED my hair. Like literally it was the stretchy elastic, fried so horribly it broke off to almost the root on ONE side. I didn't know anything was wrong until the next day when I washed my hair and it shriveled up. She sent me home knowing she had done this. When I text her the next day, she tried to SELL ME PRODUCT. Also, if you are in the chair of someone who is talking crap on her clients, you better believe she is probably talking about you as well. I am so sad that this happened, but really feel like people should know what they are getting into when...
