Maybe if you stick to noodles, you'll be okay. Based on my first experience here, I have no reason to return.
Thani Bowl Noodle House had two things in its favor, it was near my hotel, and it is not a chain. Wasn't super hungry and had ramen last night so I thought I'd go with just a couple of appetizers. I've always been a fan of chicken satay and potstickers, so I decided to get an order of each. It was a little bit of a dice roll because I ordered online and the online menu description of the potstickers is literally "deep-fried potstickers". No idea what the filling is (but after eating them my guess is pork).
I started with the potstickers because I didn't want them to lose their nice crispy edges. They were perfectly acceptable as potstickers go - not exceptional, but not bad.
The chicken satay however, is another story. If they had been cooked today, it was not in the recent past. They were either sitting under a heat lamp for a very long time, or possibly tossed into the microwave to rewarm them. To say that they were chewy is an understatement. They were downright leathery. I included the pictures of the de-chickened skewers so you could see how much of the chicken actually remained attached to the skewer after I tried to remove it. Extremely dry and tough.
I realize that noodle house is in the name. But if you are going to offer other items, they should be edible. Perhaps their dining room experience would have been better. But if you are offering take out, the quality of the food should...
Read moreI had the Bangkok boat.
First time here... I read reviews before and one reviewer called their Bangkok boat pho and that's what I wanted so I came. I found out it's not pho at all when I arrived, but I thought I'd try it because I walked here.
The restaurants atmosphere is just right. Soft lighting and interesting table placements along with a bar type table looking out the window. It has a outdoor patio vibe only indoors. Nice.
Service is adequate but not special... mind you they make you order as you walk into to place before sitting down... likely because they do lots of takeout.
The soup... IT IS NOT AND NOTHING LIKE PHO... do not listen to any other reviewer on this matter.
But... this soup is highly highly delicious and satisfying. The broth is sweet and savory all at once and arguably superior in depth of flavor than any Pho ive ever had around North America. I was not disappointed with it at all. If I lived in SLC I'd eat it all the time. For $20 though I ordered it with beef +1$ and for another +2$ they said they'd add extra meat. I thought for the price it should have included more meat than what I got I suppose I'd have to order it without extra meat to see if they just skimp on it or if the order was not communicated properly to the kitchen. Either way for $2 I'm not going to take a star away.
Very good soup... never thought I'd be on a boat lol... but I'm on the...
Read moreBest Thai food in downtown SLC! We ordered the Chiang Mai Hi, Pad Thai, fresh spring rolls, and fried egg rolls. Everything beat our expectations. The chicken in the Chiang Mai Hi was fall off the bone (literally) moist and tender. The noodles were cooked to perfection and the curry broth hit the spot on a cold winter day.
The flavor in the Pad Thai was the best I've ever had in SLC. Not too fishy, not too salty, just right. It wasn't super oily or greasy either.
The fried egg rolls were crispy and flavorful as well. I really enjoyed the fresh spring rolls with pork. They were packed with veggies and herbs.
Overall atmosphere was cute and welcoming. You order at the counter first, take a table number and then sit down inside or outside. They have an assortment of tables, long dining tables, tables for small groups, or tables for 2. The outside patio is the perfect spring or summer dining spot.
Next time I have a craving for Thai food, Thani bowl will be my first choice. Super convenient, located right off the 500 S and 400 S exists downtown. Plenty of parking in the back and quick service.
I wanted to add that I observed a guest who brought in their own carry out containers (pyrex dishes with lids). The host seemed more than happy to use those containers for take out. I thought this was a great idea and something I plan to do if I do take out from Thani Bowl...
