Well we happen to go studying when it was busy on Sunday after the storm I had my almost four year old daughter with me and my 12-year-old son and we were walking up the hill and then we had no setting one time I think the second time I think or the third time that I was these women at Grandma and a daughter standing mid standing there mid hill and people couldn't go down the hill. And I was thinking that they would that somehow maybe my daughter wouldn't hit them I put my daughter in the sled I didn't think they should hit them I didn't know if it would happen to go oh this is just going to hit them maybe and so I was yelling watch out watch out. My daughter hit the Grandma's leg and the Grandma fell to the ground and then I walked down there and sat by them and asked them what I could do I knew that if she had injured badly I'd have to pay my insurance would have to pay for her to get better.. so I stayed there Antonella lady came up and she was some kind of physical therapist or she knew how to be comfortable taking someone sucking shoe off to see to test out if she broke her leg or not. So long story short the lady was fine no broken bones. That was a miracle to me Bella so embarrassing and my patients are thinking maybe I should just wait for them to get away or I should go somewhere else so they don't get hit I was embarrassed and I felt bad for her but as being a I think I was way more embarrassed that I was impatient and I couldn't just wait or have my daughter move and then we hurt somebody and because of my bad decisions.. so from now on I'll take my kids when it's hardly busy at all and it's just a few people there or nobody because after that we went sledding a few more times by where nobody was and then some guy down the middle of the hill was in our way and he was taking a while to get out of the way I'm like I am not letting my daughter go until you actually move out of the way.. and then we left my son was swearing and he was cold and he was ornery it was not a good day have a sugar House Park is nice when you're prepared and you make...
Read moreThis is a large park that is regularly packed on nice weather days. Good luck finding a parking spot. And you'll also learn patience as you try to exit the park at the end of your visit.
I think the park is very much overhyped. It is in a nice part of town to visit, but the crowds and parking difficulties are not worth the trouble.
There is a very large playground that is packed full of kids. You will have trouble finding your small children if you bring them to this playground on a weekend. Not sure what weekdays are like. There's also a large man-made pond. There are numerous birds that come flocking to you for food. They know and are totally conditioned to being fed. I saw people feeding them Cheez-its, Fruity Pebbles and bread. I brought some black oil sunflower seeds that most birds and ducks will eat, but not these birds. They did not care about my seeds. They wanted the Cheez-its, Fruity Pebbles and bread.
The park also is popular for it's circular design with walking areas creating the perimeter of the park which is adjacent to the road that cars use for parking and driving around the perimeter of the park. I do not like this design at all and do not see why it's so desirable for people. It creates extra traffic as cars need to be extra weary of pedestrians walking so close to them and having to wait for them to stop walking to allow you make a left hand turn when you need.
I honestly think the hype with this park is the neighborhood and the fact that people know there's hype about it. There are plenty of great parks that offer some or all of what you can find at Sugar House Park. Some I can think of are Veterans Memorial Park, Murray Park, and Willow Pond Park. These parks offer great walking areas, wide grassy spaces, man-made ponds (Murray has some water, Willow has a fishing pond), and they have...
Read moreI grew up in Sugarhouse and went to Highland High so sugarhouse park has been at the core of my upbringing. I am there twice a week or more. Everything from 4th of July celebrations, 24th of July, to sluffing 10th grade to go smoke pot, to the clean river runoff of Parleys canyon that my dog loves to fish in and even my 30th Highschool reunion a while ago. It's a great park. The state has spent quite a bit revitalizing it.
It's concerning that the river has dried up and it's barely August (2021). But that was before the winter storms of 2022 and we got an excessive amount of water the stream is running wonderfully cold. But that's no reason to not conserve water people.
I don't have children but it looks like all the gym equipment or playground equipment is clean or fairly new and or well kept.
Great place great place for any outdoor activity with kids, dogs, family reunions etc.
It is not technically an off-leash but the southeast corner is primarily used by dog owners for throwing Frisbees and balls and stuff. If caught with your dog off-leash you could be subject to fines or tickets per state ordinance.
Please don't honk at the ducks crossing the road, they were here long before us and earned the right to take as much time as they like.
Thank you to the owner for their comments, take their advice keep doggos leashed and no smoking pot or anything else... Funny follow up to the tenth grade story.
While down there sluffing we saw a cop at the edge of Highland's fence and we scattered. I inadvertently left behind a library book.... That cop showed up to my 5th grade class asking for me and I got suspended for three days (thanks officer Kershaw). Moral: stay in school kids, don't do drugs. It's honestly good advice!
Big thank you to the grounds keepers you guys do an...
