got a drip kenya and an espresso. although the drip has some ground coffee in the bottom, it's sweet and fruity, not extremely bright, but noticeably syrupy in the body, and body is not usually something that captures my attention.
the espresso was fairly round and fruity with a hint of cacao or a nice single origin chocolate bar. clearly a naturally processed coffee or heavy on a natural if it's a blend, it's got a very bright acidity of raz or strawberries, but has a bit of the savoriness of sundried tomatoes, and i think it could have sweetened up with a bit less extraction. it was a nice and thick shot with a lot of fluffy crema on top.
i was fairly impressed with the coffee, especially the drip. i was happy my barista was archer, whom i feel was beyond the skill/interest level of a barista just slinging coffee on the side while pursuing something else. the shop ambiance is nice, sort of hi-end feeling. it does have a touch of a corporate strip mall feel, just a touch, but these guys are definitely not corporate. they are just friendly and professional, the music is mellow and pretty backgroundy, you just sort of get a little of the feeling that they are really concerned with pleasing you, pleasing everybody, not doing anything too exclusive. nothing about my experience jumped out and grabbed me. it didn’t make my favorite coffee shops in salt lake list, but it is pretty undoubtedly the best shop in the sugarhouse area. if they stayed open into the evening, or hosted occasional music, art, or events (like latte-art throwdowns), this could easily become a...
Read moreIt's about time I leave a review for my favorite coffeeshop, Urban. This place is more than just the best drip coffee in SLC (and trust me, as someone who drinks coffee black, there’s no better drip in town). Urban has a professional yet friendly, family vibe that makes it special. Coming here regularly brightens my week and has led to so many great connections. The baristas, who feel like family, genuinely care for each other and every customer.
A community grows from places like Urban, and I'm lucky to have this spot in my neighborhood. It keeps me coming back almost every day.
Honestly, I've been hesitant to leave a review because I love how easy it is to find a booth and enjoy the fast wifi. But after a few years of coming here, I'm confident that this amazing team can handle the growth they deserve, all while staying true to the values that got them here.
Most importantly, it's the people who make Urban special. I want to list them all by name, but you should come in and meet them yourself. Just remember to be kind to your baristas and TIP THEM WELL.

Read moreWorst barista ever. Had a whole a** conversation about her car registration with her friend/customer while she prepared her drink at the pace of a turtle. She literally told me to wait, had her convo right in front of me, stopped a few times to finish telling her story, and finally finished the one drink. Meanwhile I’m literally just standing there waiting for her to finish telling her story so I could order my cold brew. Towards the end of said story, her co-worker came out of the restroom and washed her hands, and instead of taking my order, she just stood there and watched her co-worker finish and hand off the drink. They also had one singular lonely pastry to purchase. Nothing else. Wifi info wasn’t anywhere either so after that experience I didn’t even bother trying to get the wifi password and left. With so many other cute coffee spots to try in the area, this one isn’t worth...
