First and last visit happened this weekend. We were there as a party of 5. First of all, it was not extremely busy for a Friday evening, which should have equaled at least decently waiting times. It did not.
Beers took about 15 minutes. The wait for my appetizer was agony. It took them almost 30 minutes for the Brie appetizer. I must agree with other reviewers. The waiting times are simply RIDICULOUS. When my appetizer arrived, I was appalled at the size (as someone else already noted). It was barely enough to feed me, and at $8 a piece, I considered that quite high on the price. The food took about 45 minutes to arrive. I was over the moon to read about the grass fed burger, but very disappointed, (if not infuriated) when after such long wait, my burger proved to be medium rare. Never was I asked how I wanted my burger cooked, so I imagined they were well done. The waitress took the burger back and offered to re-do it. "And wait for another 45 minutes??" I thought to myself. "I think not".
That was not the worst part, though. As stated before, we were a party of 5. Five people, cinco personas. Yet when our bills arrived, this dark haired waitress had input in our bills table of "6", and proceeded to add what seemed to be way more than the 20% she was claiming to be including in our tickets. I proceeded to tell her that we were not a party of 6, and asked if gratuity was included in a table for 5. She said she would "take care of it" and brought, much later, I must add, the corrected bills. Now, here is truly the worse part of this experience. My bill for my drink and Brie appetizer totaled $13.40, so HOW IN THE WORLD DID THE VOIDED TICKET STATED AN AMOUNT OF $18.15 DUE?? I think we all can do a little math here, and obviously we were being overcharged and taken advantage of.
I truly would have had no problem at including a 20, or even 30%, had the service met and exceeded expectations, but she barely came by and dirty dishes remained at our table until she saw fit to remove them.
Not only will we not come back to this overpriced, poorly run and not very customer service oriented place. But also will not recommend to anyone we know, or those of you who we do not, but are looking for new places to try.
My advice is this: For the amount of money you will be spending at the Blue Star Brewery, you can get much better food, service and definitely much better portions and service somewhere else. Don't waste...
Read more1st time-wait staff needs improvement. Orchestra leader from the last Tuesday of the month was a little snooty, when asked if they’d ever entertain the idea of adding a featured vocalist to their group. He quickly answered no. Which is fine-his group was very good. But as a singer, I’d like to hear someone singing along with all of those fabulous players. As far as the restaurant review goes, just tried the nachos-GREAT! But it took a long time before we could even order, must’ve been short on wait staff. Got up to get our own forks and napkins. Had to go into the bar area to order my own drink. I wasn’t mad about it-just figured they were busy doing something else.
2nd time-1st Tuesday of the month featured the Crimson Jazz 18-piece Orchestra. These cats were SUPERB! And wow, what a wonderful featured trumpet player. He was very entertaining and extremely talented. They also featured a red head sax player on “Since I Fell For You”-he was magnificent.
Restaurant review that 2nd visit: 100% better service. Ordered the nachos again & they were even BETTER than the last time. I brought out 3 people with me on this visit. All of us thoroughly enjoyed this group. I was told that I might be invited up to sing, but the leader said I would have to rehearse with their keyboard player 1st, then we would go from there. Very enlightening, considering that last weeks orchestra leader was so opposed to having ANY singers.
I WILL KEEP telling people how wonderful the Blue Star Brewery is, and that Tuesday nights from 8-10pm is the ideal time to visit because of the great songs played by their orchestra and big band groups.
Can’t wait to go and see George DeRocher (a long time friend and fellow musician) lead the San Antonio Jazz Orchestra on every 3rd Tuesday night from 8-10:00pm. Break a leg everybody.
Hey guys, if you ever get the opportunity to invite me up to sing-I would love to do: Come Rain Or Come Shine This Cat’s On A Hot Tin Roof You Don’t Know Me Nosy Joe
Break a leg all of you. And keep up the fantastic work. Y’all are the best.

I arrived here on Sunday at 5:58 pm, downloaded a QR scanner on my phone to get the menu, and took a seat outside. It was a light night, as there were only three families sitting out there. Over the course of around 30 minutes, I sat there waiting around, looking at my phone, and watching the other families get taken care of. The waiters and waitresses would walk past me laser focused on whatever table they were walking to. I really wanted to walk out at that point, but I decided to give the benefit of the doubt, as I've never been a waiter, and am not sure who was in charge of what tables. I made a point to try to make eye contact with one of them at least 3 times so as to grab their attention.
After that, I guess one of the waitresses took notice of me and asked if I had been served yet, to which I shook my head. I then ordered a beer and an appetizer, and was relieved that my order was finally being taken after 30 minutes of nothing.
A little before 6:37pm, the waitress who took my order apologizes because due to the local blackout, she couldn't put my order into the system. I asked if she had a pen and paper. She apologized once again, said I couldn't be served, and I was shortly kicked out, as I watched the two remaining families continue to get their food and drinks. I was annoyed about this mostly because I was there waiting there quietly for about 20 minutes before the blackout even happened. I have no idea how people ran businesses before POS systems were invented, but this place didn't exist until 1996, so I guess they don't know either.
I'm not too mad about this because this kind of thing seems to happen to me a lot, and I will gladly change my review to be more positive if I get to somehow try their food one day, but as of now I don't see myself coming back here. Two stars instead of one because I never actually got to try the food so I don't know if it's...
