5/5 — A Hidden Gem in San Antonio!

I stopped by Sukeban Sushi during happy hour, and wow—what an experience! I ordered the shrimp tempura roll and fried dumplings, and both were absolutely amazing. The shrimp tempura roll had the perfect balance of crispy texture and fresh flavor, and the dumplings were hot, crispy, and bursting with flavor. Everything was so good that I ended up ordering another roll to go—I just couldn’t leave without taking more with me.

Happy hour pricing was a huge bonus. I think I paid around $6 for the roll, which is an incredible deal for sushi of this quality. Happy hour runs from 3 PM to 6 PM, so it’s the perfect time to swing by if you want great food at a great price.

The vibe inside the restaurant is super fun and relaxed, with anime art on the walls that adds a cool, playful atmosphere. It’s a cozy little spot—not too loud, not too fancy, just right for a chill meal with friends or even solo.

The only downside was parking, which was a bit of a challenge. I had to circle a few times before finding a spot. But honestly, the food and experience were so good, it was totally worth it.

I’ll definitely be back. If you’re in San Antonio and craving sushi, Sukeban is a must-visit. Great vibe, delicious food, awesome...

Had a nice experience on a date night at Sukeban, on late November 2024! Despite the small place being a little packed that day, we got attentive service. The restaurant has a nice, cozy atmosphere.

The pork gyoza appetizer was good and crispy. I went for their Philadelphia Roll, and they were accommodating when I asked to remove the avocado. Using goat cheese instead of cream cheese on the roll is a great switch-up on a classic, and I really enjoyed it. I would've liked a little more fish inside the roll, but at the same time, I appreciate the size of the pieces as they are on point. My partner thought he didn't like sushi but was surprised after trying a piece of my roll and actually liking it! He ordered the chicken teriyaki, which was a generous portion. For dessert we shared the fried ice cream, an interesting warm and cold treat.

All in all, everything was nice and we would probably go back. Their happy hour sounds like...

The service was by far the worst experience I've ever had dining out. I was actually ok with the food, but the service was horrible. The waiter had this aweful attitude, forgot to bring our drinks, told us there weren't enough spoons because they were being washed when the restaurant was 1/4 full. The sushi rolls mixed in one plate for different people sitting in opposites sides of the table. I understand we all have bad days, but when we requested the check, the waiter automatically included 20% of gratuity for a party of 3 adults, 2 kids and a 3 month old baby. I requested the gratuity be removed and I would provide the tip and complained about a 3 month old baby being counted as 6th person to include the 20%. I said I would be ok with a 20% if the service had been great. Their response was sorry to hear that but your stuck with the 20% and if you feel that way don't...

One of the best Sushi joints in town. Scenery was great with all the Japanese art on the walls all thru the building. The wife and I went after a mart at the brick and we really had a great time. For starters we got spring rolls and edamame. Spring rolls were really crispy and packed. Edamame was good and had sea salt sprinkled on it. For the main dishes we split the spicy tuna and Sukeban roll. Spicy tuna was good. Good flavor a just a tad bit of spice. The Sukeban was a staff favorite and recommendation. It was really good. Had yellowtail inside and had a spicy but yet citrus taste at the end. Really really good and definitely recommend. Staff was on top of it the whole night. Constantly checking and making sure water was filled. Pricing is good! For 2 rolls and 2 starters we paid about $43. So good little night out for us and we will definitely be going back to visit.
