Thank you for this newly created dog park! There is lots of shade in the very nice large dog area! The small dog area is also very nice, just a lot smaller. I am a first time small breed dog owner, who resently survived stage 4 Cancer. Therefore, I am not able to walk much, and therefore enjoy this beautiful dog park even more! We enjoy the shady trees that protects somewhat from the extreme heat this year, plus the mulch part, the short trail in the small dog park, and the green area with 2 tiny agility ramps for tiny dogs. Sadly, the park closes at 8pm during Summer. Which would be nice if it would stay open longer, to 9pm especially since it's very hot and still light outside. There are also lights on the walking trail, which are next to the park. Since it's been so hot, everyone comes to the park by 7pm. It is currently still around 100°F at that time. The small park gets extremely full with medium and small size dogs. Everyone needs to come at the same time, because of the excessive heat and the closing time. My Chihuahua mix was to hot, and to stressed at 7pm. I decided the other day to just go right before closing, since most dogs left, because of the closing time and though my tiny pup had a chance to play with a few other small dogs for a few minutes, which she definitely enjoyed a lot! I would appreciate it, if you could extend the park hours in the evenings during the summer months, since it just gets to full by 7pm and it's absolutely to hot to go prior to 7pm. When I left the park area by 8:10pm yesterday, it was...
Read moreNOT the largest dog park in town, not by a long shot. Claims 7.5 acres and isn't even 1/8 of that! I wouldn't waste time going out of my way for this one, perhaps if I'm nearby and that's the only park nearby, otherwise I'm certain most will be disappointed especially if familiar with parks the size of McAllister Dogpark.
Pros: It looks nice and has some well thought out elements such as the self attending water station, 2 dog wash stations, about 10+ benches/picnic tables plus plenty of other seating throughout the park, shade is decent.
Cons: Gates are designed that allow dogs to push their way out because the blocker bars we're installed incorrectly (dogs cannot push their way into the park, but CAN push their way out if the gates are not latched properly. This should be reversed for safety), rear gate is easily left open allowing dogs to escape, only 2 waste bins at either far end of the park, no continuous loop to walk (you either turn around abruptly or have to exit the park and re enter the other side since you obviously can't take your large dog into the small dog park, quality of waste bags are thin and inferior to the city park's...
Read moreSAFETY CONCERN. ALL DOG OWNERS, BEWARE OF BACK EXIT. Something concerning just happened. Some bald, shorter than average, man with glasses exited the back of the park through a single entry/exit point. And DID NOT close the door behind him. This gate did NOT have the little holding area that secured a dog from running off. As a result, my dog escaped out the door and onto the walking path. My husband caught up to our dog and this irresponsible man who pretended not to know English. I kept telling “YOU NEED TO CLOSE THE GATE.” My husband also told him the same thing, but this person uttered something in another language that wasn’t Spanish or English. He had no dog with him, so I have no idea why he was in a dog park in the first place. Whoever manages the park, I urge you to LOCK that gate so that only staff can enter and exit with a key. There is a single bar that goes into a whole in the cement. It had been pulled out by this man. Although only our dog escaped, this can AND WILL happen again unless management does something. Owners, keep your eyes on your dog and keep away from the back of...
