I've come to this place multiple times because we love the atmosphere here! So last night was a true disappointment. Starting off with the service. We waited and waited and waited if I had not spoke up about ordering we probably would of waited another 20-30 minutes to order our food. When our food finally arrived only 4/12 people liked their food. (people who ordered tacos were the only ones who liked the food). When It came to my plate specifically the fish tasted like it had been sitting there for a while before being cooked. In all honesty the fish tasted really rancid, so I only ate the rice and the veggies. When proceed to finish the server/waiter came around and asked how the food was and to which I responded "I didn't like the food" and he just says "oh ok". Which at this point I was already just wanting to go pick up some food from somewhere else and leave. Well finally we had to ask for the check because they didn't come back after the plates were picked up. When paying it I could feel the waiter staring over my shoulder, it was extremely uncomfortable at this point. Well when paying it gives you the option to put a thumbs up or thumbs down and I pushed thumbs down cause of the over service and food quality. And he then proceeds to go "why did you put thumbs down?" and I told him "well I let you know I didn't like the food but that okay maybe it's just an off day?" He then proceeded to say " let me go get my manager for you." I said "No that's okay don't worry about it's honestly okay." Which he insisted so I eventually just said okay. Waiting about another 10 minutes to where I'm about to leave and he came back and insisted again when he saw me getting up to leave to which I said "No that's okay I gotta go. Thank you anyway." He then again said "let me go get my manager." And I just said okay and left. I was not gonna wait another 10-15 to speak with manager if it was something you needed me to speak with a manager they should of been there quickly not wait more than 10 minutes to speak with the M.O.D especially after the fact I said it was okay because I just wanted to get out of there!!! I was just extremely disappointed and uncomfortable with the whole someone overlooking my shoulder while paying. It was just a bad experience last night for a dinner that was suppose to be nice worse $50 I spent for a meal and was extremely...
Read moreOk where to start… came here because of the reviews and proximity to my hotel. Had high hopes.
5/5 for the margarita flight. Best part of the entire experience. 4 different margs and a candied straw with tajin on it, great touch. Several pics online already, they are accurate.
It went downhill fast from here. Service 1/5. I was one of 3 people sitting at their bar, which has maybe 20 seats. Got my water and flight quick, but nothing else. I ordered guac and chips with salsa right away, the server forgot it. Isn’t salsa and chips a given to all customers almost everywhere? Then he comes by maybe 20 min later and says the food will be right out. I reminded him of the guac/chips/salsa. He never put it in. Then I got the chips and salsa 5 min later, but still no guac. He said one minute, lies. I just asked for a small side for one person. I also ordered beef fajitas, medium rare, corn tortilla. Pretty straightforward. Remember earlier when he said food would be right out? Well that meant another 20 min. Steak came out overcooked, chewy and under seasoned. Like almost hard to cut through chewy. I was hungry so I hate about half but I usually crush all my steak. Oh and then the guac came, after the steak fajitas. It wasn’t guac it’s just mashed avocado, no seasoning whatsoever. Some salt, lime and cilantro goes a long way, none were present.
Atmosphere, I’ll give it a 3/5. Nice area, decent atmosphere. But probably biased because the food was terrible.
I’m writing this before I’ve even paid, I had to vent quick, this was rough. In San Antonio you gotta be good at Mexican, idk how this place has 4.4/5 rating based on this experience. I would come here for margs...
Read moreAfter a two week visit to Europe we were craving Mexican food. Jet lag had me starving but unable to eat the texas sized portions this great state is known for, my daughter ready to eat all the foods. So we ordered a starter Elotes Botaneros (Four pieces of grilled corn on the cob covered in a tangy cream sauce and queso fresco.) And two main dishes a small bowl of Sopa de Tortilla (crisp corn tortilla chips, avocado, chipotle pepper and Muenster cheese) and Enchiladas Verdes (Three soft rolled corn tortillas filled with chicken guisada, tomatillo sauce, with red rice and refried beans.) We we’re served chips, salsa and refried beans, which I must say this is only the second restaurant I’ve been to that serves beans with the chips the other being in Arizona. The salsa was delicious.
The Elotes were sour, I love a little lemon or lime on them but these were so sour they were almost inedible. I wouldn’t order a again.
The soup was delicious, and presented beautifully, almost to be made to your taste, which could have been done with the Elotes by perhaps providing the lemom/lime to add as you wish.
My daughter really enjoyed her Enchiladas and devoured the plate.
My only other issue giving this restaurant a 4 instead of 5 star is we were seated at a table that was getting dripped on by the A/C, avoidable by scooching over a bit but there were other tables we could have been seated at.
I would also say it’s a very pricy location, especially for lunch, but it is La Cantera. Other than that we had great service and a manager came to ask how it was and was very professional and polite. I mentioned the leak and he...
