I went here a few years ago for a āfree 1-Week Trialā. This branch appealed to me because I work nights and this branch is open 24 hours.
It was difficult to start the trial. I arrived and was turned down; I apparently had to print a form from home and the gym didnāt supply the document. When I finally brought the form, thatās when the circus began.
A salesperson dressed in workout gear walked out to greet me. He had his elbows flared, chin up and was trying to flex. It was a bazaar act. He probably weighted less than 150.
He looked at my document and acted amazed that Iām an RN (such a rare occupation) and that he āhas a great friend who was an RN tooā. This used-car, Dale Carnegie tactic for gaining rapport was insincere and patronizing.
All I wanted was the week-trial. I told him, I really just needed a few days. If I like the equipment and the environment during the midnight hours; then Iāll most likely join.
The salesperson wasnāt listening. He was so focused on getting me signed up for personal trainers, that I was changing my mind. Me joining would have been a simple, easy sale; however, this person kept talking. He talked my way out of joining.
The salesman drew a Concept Map. It displayed a circle for START; a Star for FINISH, a square for STRENGTH training, a triangle for CARDIO and other nonsense. He drew lines connecting the different symbols in several direction, finally ending up at the Finish.
The salesperson, then drew a PT in the corner and informed me āIf you get a PERSONAL Trainerā, you can make the path from START to FINISH, like thisā. He then, drew a line directly from start to finish in a linear fashion. He explained nothing.
His presentation would be amusing for a 5 year old, but not me. I was hurtfully baffled and left confused.
The stipulation to the āfree trialā was that I had to go to the gym WHILE this salesperson was on his shift. Why? So he can micromanage me?
He waited to tell me this AFTER the gym tour; AFTER his Incessant questions and after his childish presentation. He knew in advance that I would attend the gym during the midnight hours. I told him this directly; yet, he chose to not listen and ignored what I wanted.
I really canāt recommend this gym. Why be associated with Used-Car Salesperson pitches. Itās a gym, it should...

Ā Ā Ā Read moreLet me introduce you all to the Planet Fitness of Golds Gyms. My billing cycle has been messed up since day 1 with this gym. So instead of the $39.99 I get hit with the $20 late fee that no one can fix for some reason. Paying $60 on two memberships ends up being $120 a month. No matter how many times I talk to people, switch, cards, pay on the due date in person itās always the $120. Now letās move onto how not clean it is here. Itās been 3 times now that Iāve had to tweeze metal shavings from the gym equipment out of my hands which it likely digging in what looks like years of grime from the barbells deep into my skin. Everything you pick up will be unquestionably dirty. Place needs a deep clean and more educated staff when it comes to account issues. But maybe thatās my mistake for having high expectations for a gym with the āGoldsā logo attached to it. Update. Nothing was fixed. You guys automatically renewed my membership without reaching out. Something I didnāt want. And now youāre trying to overcharge me for my annual fee. 70$ for ringworm and metal shavings to get cut with in almost every piece of equipment Ive touched. No thank you. Thereās so many worthwhile clean gyms worth going to than this. Iāve gone to every small and larger gym franchises in San Antonio and none of them, not even PF was this bad. Iām not wasting another dime...
