ECLECTIC HOTEL w/ FUN TROPICAL VIBES! Sure, the Seven Seas is a bit dated and isn’t as popular as some other hotels, however it’s very charming and economical. You’re in the heart of hotel circle and about a 10 min drive from Downtown SD. Also, you’re literally across the freeway from a plentiful amount of dining options and some stores. This is the second time I’ve stayed here and it’s even more comfortable than the last.
The management has included brand new mattresses for EACH room and dang I had the most delightful sleep. The mattress was so comfy I instantly melted. Also, the pillows are high quality. Nothing on the bed felt dirty or old. Everything I slept on or used to sleep was crisp and white. The covers were fresh out of the dryer! My only critique on cleanliness would apply to the carpet, it’s dingy and at this point I would recommend putting laminate or hardwood floor. It would refresh the room immediately.
Each room has a standard flat screen with a good amount of channels. I had a horror movie marathon and was totally in my element lol. The WiFi was also wonderful, I was able to use my laptop and phone with ease and sufficient internet service. I had an issue logging in but it was quickly resolved and I didn’t have a problem after!
The hotel has a pool, jacuzzi, bar and restaurant that are very popular with travelers and are very clean! I tried the Seven Seas Cafe and the food was pretty good, the staff are decent in there. The Seven Seas Cafe had speedy service and the waiter wasn't too bad. You can tell he had his favorites and dedicated his time to them over all the other customers but he was never rude. I tried the cafe on Night 1 of my stay as I was craving a sandwich, the BLT was okay. The bacon was dry and the veggies didn't taste super fresh, but it was serviceable. The fries are amazing here, definitely would recommend those! The next night I returned because I had a massive headache and didn't want to leave my hotel so I tried the pizza. Again, it was fine but nothing spectacular . I actually enjoyed the pizza much more than the sandwich. I just think I came in too late and they kind of rushed everything to get me out the door on the second night. The cafe is super quiet and great for having a no frills bite. I thought it was pretty clean and roomy. I really liked the outdoor seating, there was plenty of room for groups out there. The Seven Seas Cafe is in between the hotel's lobby and Zack's Bar.
The bar was popping, lots of people were having a good time in there! I walked by the pool and jacuzzi, both looked very relaxing. I love that the hotel has lots of tress and tropical plant life it’s very SD. There’s three two-story structures across the property, all have easy access to the lobby and amenities. Don’t fret about parking, there’s plenty of room to park. I had the pleasure of parking right in front of my room!
Overall, I recommend this hotel. I felt safe and it’s very family-friendly. I didn’t hear any antics at night nor crazy kids. This is a...
Read moreI stayed at Best Western Seven Seas from Sunday night to Friday morning for a work trip, and it was one of the most unsettling hotel experiences I’ve ever had.
The only reason I stayed here was because there was a major event happening in the area that week, and hotel availability was extremely limited. Best Western appeared to be the most suitable option at the time. Unfortunately, it proved to be far from it.
On Sunday night, I was given a key to a room that was already occupied. When I arrived at the door, I saw luggage outside, the lights were on, and I could clearly see a woman lying on the bed through the window. I never touched the doorknob or tried to enter. Out of concern for everyone’s safety, I went straight back to my car and called the front desk. Security eventually came and gave me a new room key.
The next day, I followed up at the front desk, but there was still no manager available. I was told the guests in that room had called to ask if everything was okay because “someone tried to enter their room and the doorknob moved.” That was simply not true. I never got close enough to touch the door. It felt like they were trying to shift the narrative instead of taking accountability. To make matters worse, they downplayed the incident by saying the other guests were understanding and had no issue with what happened after explaining the situation, as if that somehow made it acceptable.
Throughout my stay, I reached out by phone and email multiple times to speak with management. No response. No callbacks. No replies to emails. I didn’t get to speak with a manager until Thursday afternoon, four days into my stay.
On top of the safety issue, the new room I was assigned smelled horrible whenever the sink was used and didn’t drain properly. The room overall didn’t feel clean or well-maintained.
And after all of that? The manager’s offer of compensation was… a free breakfast. They even tried to sell it by describing how good the pancakes, bacon, and eggs were…which honestly felt like a joke. I declined.
This experience made me feel unsafe, dismissed, and completely disregarded. I strongly urge you to...
Read moreI had previously stayed at the Best Western Seven Seas and had a good experience. The location in the corner of Hotel Circle can be a little difficult to navigate, but the grounds are beautiful and there is a pool and restaurant onsite. I was looking forward to this next visit. I think perhaps there is new ownership or management that is more interested in maximizing profits today.
The grounds are still gorgeous. Our rooms were not ready at 4:00pm check-in time, nor did the front desk staff acknowledge (like most Best Westerns) that we were elite members and typically the front desk offers us cold waters. This hotel apparently does not offer that, plus has in-room water for which there is a charge.
The rooms are a little dated and felt like they were being neglected as far as maintenance is concerned. In the room I stayed in, we immediately noticed that there was no outer part to the in-door viewer that lets you see who is outside.
Upon entering the room, we noticed some dark stains on the ceiling. The beds were doubles, but the bedding did not seem large enough to be able to properly have two people underneath of it. Every time one of us rolled over, we pulled the sheets of the other person. That made for a not-so-restful night.
The phone was missing a cover and perhaps other pieces and looked like something out of an abandoned hotel. I began to wonder if there was free breakfast, so I tried to call the front desk to clarify. The phone didn't work. I used my mobile phone and discovered that they no longer offer any type of complimentary breakfast like almost every other Best Western, or like they used to in the past.
In addition to this, when we went to take a shower, the knob that points to hot and cold were reversed - meaning the further you went to hot the colder the shower was. Perfect was right about in the middle, but that was also the "off" setting.
The next time I need a hotel in San Diego, I will look further than the Best Western Seven Seas. This hotel seems to be all about the revenue and not about...
