Local deceptive practices with no follow up after taking my money.
People make mistakes, myself included. Sometimes it is management or some other pressure that sways bad decisions. Only posting this after having given the sales rep opportunities to make things right.
I got hoodwinked in October, walked in for a short exercise and the sales guy caught me at the front walking in pushing me to bundle my and my son's memberships to save money monthly and add my daughter. I had no interest to do so, did not even ask for this, just wanted to workout, but he was fully persistent and got me to consider.
After seeing the financial breakdown, it did not make sense because I had to repay new initiations and more annual fees after I had just re-upped and paid annual fees on our current memberships, plus just paid our new monthly the prior day and losing out on the last month off each without a credit. I will spare you the full story of the sneaky and deceitful nature of the manager jumping into the convo to say "I am not even allowed to do this and never have done this before" by offering to waive one of the three annual memberships for life whereas the sales guy had literally already offered that to me as their current promotion.
I walked out saying, no thank you. The sales guy phoned me a few times during dinner, then texted to tell me his manager could help compensate me with getting the other two annuals covered. After phoning him back, he switched it by saying, actually you would need to pay those annuals, but my manager will give you all a 60 day temp pass, so we would pause your membership after the first month, and you could use the temp pass to offset the annuals.
I was so tired of this and just wanted it to end, felt like easier to just say yes and be done. He did everything over the phone with me and signed for my membership on my behalf. He obviously was then supposed to have cancelled my current memberships to not pay double.
I reached back in 30 days on November 15 as you can see in the text, and he said he was going to square it away. He never did. Holidays and work are busy and I just assumed he would get things done. I texted back, no reply. Then again texted back on Friday December 27 with a date of Monday to take care of it. Again, no reply. I then received an email on Monday that my original membership was just cancelled. I went to a different club to find out what happened, evidently he got my text because there is a note right after I texted him to put in for the cancellation. Still never bothered to message or phone me.
I find out that he never cancelled me or my son's memberships in October, was paying for duplicate memberships for two months. Funny thing, he still never cancelled my son's.
Days later, he still has not got back to me.
I spoke with Corporate Customer Support. The gal was lovely and showed much empathy with the situation. She did refund the two erroneous duplicate memberships for the two months, and helped me with the original promised two...
Read moreOne-Star Review - Misleading Contract Terms for Personal Training.
This one-star review is based solely on the misleading nature of the personal training contract at LA Fitness.
I want to share my experience with LA Fitness’ personal training program to help others fully understand the terms of the contract. My total contract cost was $1,229 (which was not disclosed as a full commitment) with an initial payment of $244 (which included a registration fee) and a monthly payment of $197. What I wasn’t clearly told is that this is a total cost contract, and the only way to cancel is by paying 50% of the remaining balance.
In my case, I signed up for four classes per month at $197, which seemed reasonable at first. However, when I tried to cancel due to challenges with my schedule (despite my trainer doing their best to accommodate me), I was told I still owed over $700 for the remaining contract. To cancel, I needed to pay half of the remaining balance, which came to over $300. This was extremely frustrating, as I was told at the time of signing that I could cancel anytime. Additionally, the total cost of the contract was never clearly disclosed upfront—only the $197 monthly payment was emphasized.
I want to stress that my dissatisfaction is not with the trainer. My trainer has been excellent—knowledgeable, professional, and someone I truly enjoy working with. My decision to cancel was purely due to difficulties working around my schedule, not the quality of the training.
However, I feel it’s unfair and misleading that the cancellation policy and total contract commitment were not properly explained. I relied on the information provided by the staff, but it did not reflect what was in the contract.
Yes, I take responsibility for not reading the contract carefully. That was my mistake. However, as a loyal LA Fitness customer for many years, I trusted the process and expected transparency.
If this type of commitment and pricing structure works for you, great! But if you’re unsure, I strongly encourage you to read the contract in full before signing. Don’t rely solely on what the salesperson tells you, as it may not align with the actual terms.
This is my honest review to help others make an informed decision about the personal training program at LA Fitness. Make sure you understand exactly what you’re committing to so there are no...
Read moreThis review is for the Director of personal Training Kellen, I just had the most disturbing call I have ever experienced in my life with this guy. I has recently signed up cause I was so close to this location and wanted to get back on track after going through Chemo treatments and having hormones removed and obviously your body works different after being through something so intense. they give you 3 options when you sign up as a "free" session to thank you for signing up, free hour of personal training, target heart rate calculation or a nutrition plan calculating your macros carbs proteins fats along with calorie intake depending on your goals. I chose the macro calculation as my body is way different that it was and needed to know those specific numbers to MY body so I can work withing those guidelines and start to see the results I need to fit into my health journey. He seemed to be more interested in getting me to sign up for personal training sessions, and when trying to be honest with him about what my goals were he kept cutting me off being rude and basically telling me to shut up and for me to seek professional medical nutrition guidance cause what I was looking for was not something he could provide (even though it was one of the options they provided). This guy seems to be very full of himself and does not deal well when people are not interested in using his services that wants people to use, If you are not interested in providing those services you should not offer them. Also being in the customer service industry myself that was even more appalling to have been spoken to and treated in that manner. This phone call happened after our first "appointment" he was a no call no show. I guess I should have stuck with my first impression and not have given this guy the breath out of my lungs. I really hope this was a one off situation and this guy does not treat all people this way because the way he made me feel and the way he spoke to me was UNACCEPTABLE!!! I hope he has a side gig where he makes millions of dollars cause treating people, clients this way isnt going to provide much success in...
