Having a wedding here is truly beautiful. The view is breathtaking, the ocean breeze keeps things cool even on a warm day, and your photos are going to turn out stunning. It’ll definitely be a day to remember for the bride and groom.
That said, there are a few things I wish I had known ahead of time, so here are some tips, especially for brides and grooms planning their wedding here,t o help make the day smoother for your guests.
First, shade is limited. If the couple isn’t providing parasols or some sort of covering, definitely encourage your guests to bring hats, sunscreen, or even a small umbrella. It's not oppressively hot, but you will be in full sun.
Accessibility is another big consideration. There is a ramp and some stairs that lead down to the little grassy knoll that overlooks the ocean, but the path is sandy and cracked. It’s not ideal for anyone with mobility issues. The grass itself has lots of uneven patches and small dips, so if you’re a little unsteady on your feet, you’ll need to be extra careful and watch your step.
Parking is probably the biggest headache. It’s extremely limited. Make sure to tell guests to arrive early and wear comfortable walking shoes, because they may end up parking half a mile away or more and walking in. If you plan on having your reception at the Cuvier Club, I suggest having guests park there and walking to the wedding and then back. It was nice at the end of the night to kust wqlk down the street go my car and not to have to walk 3/4 a mile back to the wedding bowl site to the car at 10:30pm after dancing for 3 hours. Ya know?
Also, go to the bathroom before you get there. Seriously. The nearest restroom is at least a half-mile away, and if you're older or handicapped, it’s not an easy stroll. A little planning ahead here will save a lot of stress later.
One last thing to keep in mind it’s a public park. So there will be people watching your ceremony from a above the knoll. I actually thought it was kind of sweet, like a bunch of strangers showed up to celebrate, but it’s something to be aware of if privacy is important to you.
Overall, it’s a gorgeous spot for a wedding, no question. But I’d definitely recommend giving your guests a heads-up about the terrain, the sun, the restrooms and parking so that they come prepared. Luckily my husband did some investigating before hand and found out about all these issues so that we would come prepared. A little planning can make it magical for not just the bride and groom, but the...
