What a great location - within blocks of ALL local attractions (restaurants, banks, supermarket, juice/smoothie bars, vegan/vegetarian eateries etc.). The best bath/shower ever - excellent water pressure - water is piping hot, bath filled up superfast (I hate it when it takes an hour to fill the tub) - I'd stay here again just based on how great the bath experience was! There was a mix up with our reservation - we arrived and they didn't seem to know we were coming (not sure if it was their issue or the website where we booked the rooms) - but they could not have been more accommodating - fortunately they still had a room for us - and we were taken care of right away. Parking is crazy difficult in this part of La Jolla, and while we didn't like the $15/night cost, it made it very convenient - otherwise I don't know what we'd have done with the car. They also gave us very good coupons for restaurants nearby, which were helpful (or they would have been, had these places not closed for Christmas Day - but that's just how it goes - most places closed on Christmas day, and we have no complaints about that at all - people should be with their families!).
I have to give a shout out to Jim, the night manager - he was SUPER helpful - gave us great recommendations for a nice beer/IPA place/ brewery - Karl Strauss Brewing Company) - which we just LOVED - and he helped sort out our reservation issues too - thanks Jim, you saved us!
Beds were very comfortable - rooms very clean and a good size - only thing missing was a microwave in the room (if you need early morning porridge before a bicycle ride, or if you need a heating pad before turning in for the night, it's a pain in the neck, but at least there's a microwave in the coffee room) - it was amazingly quiet - we never heard another guest - and we just LOVED the coffee room by the pool - Seattle's Best coffee and hot chocolate available any time - and a whole host of vending machine options - in a nice, clean, inviting environment with a flat screen tv. Excellent! Really DELIGHTED with my husband's choice in hotels - we heard other guests saying they'd stayed in every hotel in La Jolla just about, and Inn by the Sea was the best. We absolutely LOVED it and if we were ever back in La Jolla, this is the ONLY place we'd want to stay. Sad we can't stay longer than four nights. Oh, and I have to say, the air conditioner in the room - the quietest one we've EVER had in a room EVER - we were sure it wasn't working it was so quiet, but it was blowing out nice, ice cold air - just silently! It was great! Also, there are PLENTY of plugs, outlets and usb ports to charge phones and things like that - they REALLY thought about that. Even the alarm clock has two separate outlets for a charger, and two usb ports - the bedside light has two outlets - the table lamp has two - they really put a lot of thought into that and we so appreciate that. ALL of these outlets were in use! (lots of...
Read moreFalsely advertised: "Each guestroom is kept vacant for a minimum of 24 hours between bookings." and "The property has connecting/adjoining rooms, which are subject to availability and can be requested by contacting the property using the number on the booking confirmation." these are not true at all! Booked under F. Garcia. This hotel falsely advertised a couple of things that ruined our weekend experience here. First false advertisement: The property has connecting/adjoining rooms, which are subject to availability and can be requested by contacting the property using the number on the booking confirmation; We booked our room almost a month prior to our check in date 6/12/21 and every week I would call to request 2 conjoining rooms out of the 4 rooms we booked. The lady who always answered the phone always tells me that I'm calling too far ahead to make such a request and said "call a week before to request for conjoining rooms." so i did then "she said just come to the hotel earlier so we can try to give you a conjoining room." Then we get to the hotel 1 hour earlier than check in time which is 3 pm after waiting they couldn't give us the rooms we requested. To top it all we couldn't get in any room because the rooms weren't ready which brings me to the second false advertisement they had. They advertised that "Each guestroom is kept vacant for a minimum of 24 hours between bookings." this is clearly not the case we literally had to wait 30 min after check in time just to finally get our rooms! In addition to that, when we got out our room it was filthy the curtain looked like someone muddy use the curtain to wipe themselves with it and there was mold underneath the air conditioner. I took photos of the dirty curtain and the moldy air conditioner to show the manager. When the manger saw the photos he miraculously found me a room next to my sister's room! However, the second room was also dirty! under a pillow my wife found a hair tie that did not belong to us which means the sheets was possibly dirty too, but at this point i was already frustrated enough to speak to the manager again. The manager tried to accommodate by waiving the $15 parking fee. After all that, I would rather get a full refund for everything we went through. I shouldn't have to go through all of these specially when I paid almost $300 for a room. I don't think we will ever go back to this...
Read moreStayed here to attend a wedding in La Jolla. Overall a good stay, especially if you are looking for a reasonable deal compared to other options in the area.
Pros: location, location, location. It’s in the village and just a few blocks from the water. You may think being on the water is better, but most reception or night events will take place back in the village so it’s actually closer if you stay at this inn after spending time hanging out. Plenty of great restaurants just a block or two away. Accommodating front desk staff were flexible and helpful. This place should probably be more like a three star hotel since it does have a number of amenities, including a heated pool and partners with The Cottage (popular breakfast spot often with a line) for breakfast delivery and Balanced Fitness (a full service and quality gym) for fitness needs a block and a half away. Best part of this hotel is the AMAZING hot water and water pressure (at least on the first floor). One of my favorite showers for that reason.
Cons: definitely needs updating per other reviews. The bed was comfortable enough, but blankets were quilt like and heavy. The heating and air conditioning unit made noise all night while running. Luckily we are able to sleep through it, but if you need silence, you’ll have to keep the machine off. Speaking of, the heating/ac unit itself was clearly old and I was a bit wary of whether it was clean and not blowing dirty air into the room. Bathroom was small and no vent running when you turn on the light. I may have loved the water pressure, but the tub itself needed updating. The tub glaze was cracking off and there was clearly layers and layers of caulk around the spout. You can tell the place is on the older side, so I would recommend the hotel look to updating its rooms to match the level of expectation based on the surrounding...
