If I could give the Cormorant a zero rating, I would. DO NOT STAY HERE. IT IS A SCAM. I never write reviews, but I felt the need to ensure no one has to same experience as me. When we showed up, there was no valet, no parking, and no one answering the phone. We finally self-park and enter the building, where an older couple who had just checked in was complaining that when they entered their assigned room, other guests were occupying the space and they had no where to go. When we then attempted to check in, they did not have our room ready. We waited 3 hours and then returned, at which point we were told we would have to wait another 2 hours past the guaranteed check in time. At this point, I requested to speak to the manager. Meanwhile, employees were in the lobby area on their phones looking at Instagram, eyeing up our bags. I felt very uncomfortable. The concierge, who is also the valet??, was wearing pajamas. She asked if I would like to stay elsewhere — she brought it up before I even did. I said yes, and I requested a full refund. I did not feel confident that this hotel would follow through so I once again asked for the manager. The manager eventually comes. She was aloof and rude. We waited 30 minutes for the valet to get out car, and the valet refused to help us with bags, refusing to even look us in the eyes or say goodbye or apologize for the inconvenience. On top of all of that, these people are charging unreal rates. When I had to sit in my car after leaving to find another hotel to stay in for the night, I saw that they were still offering rooms but at an increased price of 500 dollars! Whatever you do, AVOID THIS PLACE. I’ll be checking my bank account to ensure they refunded me — I do NOT trust them to follow through. All the positive reviews you see here are 100% fake and written by members of their team. Worst travel experience I...
Read moreAfter not seeing many reviews on this boutique hotel, and knowing we were only in La Jolla two nights, I decided to take a chance (especially after seeing the La Valencia hotel next door was about $900/night).
It was a cool experience, and in an absolutely perfect location in downtown La Jolla. Just two windows down from La Valencia, a block from the beach and sea lions, and a Starbucks about 50 steps away. Not much more you could want.
We stayed on the main floor, which was the second floor, Room 206, corner unit, closest to the beach end of the building. It had a fun little balcony with an ocean view, and overlooking the shops of La Jolla.
We learned the whole hotel only has 26 rooms. We never heard a single, other guest while we were there. The staff was very nice. The entire building is compact, meaning that there aren't wide open hallways and expansive spaces if you're looking for that big-hotel feel. It feels a bit more like a nice bed-n breakfast. The cleaning closet was outside our room, so sometimes we encountered cleaning supplies and employees re-upping supplies outside our room (but that was no impact at all).
The bathroom was roomy and nice. The room is a bit small, but we spent so little time in there, that was of no consequence. Comfy beds, and aside from the occasional local showing off their loud exhaust system, it was generally quiet.
If you're looking for a perfect location, quaint, boutique vibe, and the easiest in/out, this...
Read moreI do not usually write negative reviews but I feel a responsibility to share my experience with others looking for a place to stay in La Jolla. My partner and I stayed at this hotel for five nights. We had several issues. First of all, there were stains on the pillowcases. It made us wonder if our linens were even clean/fresh when we arrived. We also noticed a stain/spill on the carpet by the bed. Not a great feeling. Adding to the not-so-clean vibe were the busing trays from the rooftop restaurant sitting at the top of the stairs that we took to get down to the lobby. Additionally, the noise/music from the bar next door and the street was loud well into the night. Also making it hard to sleep: the walls were thin and we could hear our hotel neighbors. Adding to our frustration, we had deferred cleaning of our room for the first three days of our stay but when we asked for a cleaning of our room and fresh towels on our fourth day, they did not clean or leave any towels. We were annoyed to come back after a long day and see a dirty room and no towels. They were apologetic when we told them about the omission but it was too late in the evening to do anything about changing the sheets or taking out the trash etc. They did bring towels to us but it took a weirdly long time. The staff we met were friendly but they seemed under- supported by the managers/owners of the hotel. I do not recommend this place...
