If a great location by the beach is what you want, fine. Otherwise, look elsewhere. ||For an overpriced small inn, this is the worst place I’ve ever stayed in the US. If you read past all the 5 star reviews that correctly talk about the excellent location & friendly staff, the 1 star reviews will give you a much better sense of what actually staying here is like. I’m writing this in the early AM as all the noise from makes sleeping impossible! Children & adults stomping around upstairs to the extent that my whole room shakes when they move. The floorboards squeak with every step they take. Ongoing street noise only adds to the problem. ||From their website , you might assume that this is a chic little boutique inn. Nothing could be further from the truth. It is a tired, old property that has seen sporadic upgrades, mostly cosmetic, over time. The rooms actually need to be completely renovated to justify the prices being charged. ||Our kitchenette has all the basics. It would be nice if the outlets for the Keurig & toaster weren’t hidden under the cabinets, where my 4’ 10” wife was the only one able to see them. There’s an induction stove top that was impossible to turn on without downloading a manual from the internet (Hint: it takes a counterintuitive 2-step routine to operate). ||Lighting in the kitchen ( a single, bare, 20 watt Edison bulb) & living room areas is inadequate. Furniture is stained & uncomfortable. A cover on one of the couch cushions was so small that the foam pad was exposed. There’s a large, inoperable wall heater full of cobwebs that should have been pulled out years ago, along with its useless thermostat. Although mini-splits have been installed, some of the required remotes are missing. The TV is an ancient flat screen mounted crooked on the wall. There’s only one towel bar in the bathroom for a two bedroom unit and various other hooks to hang things have been broken off. And, the entire room was damp & musty. ||If I was here for a summer beach vacation I could probably overlook a lot of these issues. However, I’m here to meet up with family for Thanksgiving and wish I’d chosen a comfortable hotel that allowed for a good...
Read moreI have been staying at the Scripps in for my honeymoon and the experience has been very good. It's a beautiful sea front in that is very close to the beach (literally across the street) and very close to the attractions of La Jolla. This Inn is a bed and breakfast style place. This is not a resort or "normal" Hotel. Theinn is small; I believe there's only 14 or 15 rooms. They are varying in size and room 14 is the biggest. We are staying there, so I can only speak of the other rooms from the outside. They are one-bedroom and Studio Style with our room being about 700 square feet with a bedroom, bathroom, and large living room and that includes a small kitchenette with a range top, microwave, keurig toast, and small mini fridge. The kitchen has basic cooking utensils, pot, saucepan, and skillet. There are plates, bowls, and glasses including wine glasses. The views from each room are incredible. Besides, there's basically no where you can't see the beach and the constant sound of the surf is great. Coming here in January was a great call. It's not, but there's still people around. Parking has not been an issue here however, the scripts inn does appear that it might suffer from that during the summer and they have about five parking spaces out front and that's it. The rest of their parking is around back in a narrow alley. Rent or bring a small car, it's not Truck friendly. The inn itself is very nautical in theme. Robert, this property is not large and misses several amenities of a normal Hotel like Pool, Spa, and restaurant. Their breakfast in the morning has various baked goods, granola cereal, Quaker oatmeal, and some V8 and orange juice. It is very basic and there's nowhere to sit down there. We ended up, they won, going to the grocery store and getting supplies for a hot breakfast. I give this 4 stars because I would really have liked to have had a hot tub for the colder January months, but the staff, location, and quality of rooms has been great. I would...
Read moreVisited Scripps Inn La Jolla for one night April 2019. Rented a Junior Suite- including parking and taxes- paid +$350 for the night. So very disappointing. Thought we would be getting a boutique inn experience (based on online reviews and website photos) but instead it was a shabby, dated motel room on the coast. The bed sheets/pillow cases were very thin and pilling with body hair on them. They felt threadbare and very old. Thin coverlet and decorative pillows also looked/felt very old and worn. In the center of the room/under the bed was an old, dirty oriental rug. I did not want to walk on it barefoot it was so shabby and gritty looking. Broken and rusted wooden window blinds, and missing light switch covers just added to the feeling of disrepair/age in the room. We stayed on the bottom floor and could hear EVERYTHING the upstairs folks were doing- just walking around and using the bathroom (normal stuff). No sound insulation at all unfortunately. The room we were in was facing the street (ocean view across the street) and road traffic was very audible. Not a modernized room- only electrical outlet for phone charging no where near the bed/bedside tables. There is no staff at this hotel after 6pm until about 8:30am/9am. I found that odd for the price of this place. Very confused by the ratings this "hotel" receives as the quality in the room and service is just not there. One plus-the location is extremely good for walking to see the seals at the Children's pool or walking to the main town area for a bite to eat- but that's the only redeeming quality. We decided not to stay the full night and checked out (since there was no front desk person we just left the room key in their late check-in key box/safe by the front door) to find another hotel. Used the HotelTonight app to find a 4 star hotel (modern, clean, cozy, with plentiful amenities) in the area for...
