I can assure Eric that I am not affiliated with UC Cyclery. 8-) I am from Dallas and my business travels took me to San Diego this week. I am a fairly avid cyclist and I wanted to ride the coast to Oceanside to get about 50 miles in for a ride. I looked around at several different local bike shops and called around to see who rented what bikes. UCC said they would rent a Specialized Tarmac (which is comparable to my Trek Madone 5.2) for $65 a day - which is pretty reasonable because that is what bike shops in Dallas charge for rentals. I asked about pedals and they said that they only provide caged pedals, so I would need to bring my own. They were very polite and friendly - I was a little leery of going there because of the bad reviews, but I thought that I would give them a try since I am only renting a bike. My overall experience with them was extremely positive - they were friendly, courteous and fast. They gave me directions on how to get to the path where I wanted to go and were very eager to know how my ride went when I got back to the shop. They didn't try to sell me anything and they weren't pushy at all. I have seen reviews here complaining about how overpriced they are, especially compared to the online market - of course they're higher than online! Bricks-and-mortar stores always are. However, their prices on the Keo2Max Carbon pedals that I recently purchased from a store in Dallas were cheaper than what I paid. I looked around at a few other items while they were removing my pedals from the rental and from what I could tell, their prices were pretty good. If and when I go back to SD, I will custom them again. Even though they knew they weren't going to sell me anything, they were friendly and seemed genuinely concerned to make sure that I had a good ride and enjoyed...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIāve been to UC Cyclery multiple times over the years to just grab some small stuff.
A couple of months ago, I actually bought my first bike from them and it was an awesome experience. Trevor is extremely knowledgeable, very friendly and has a great sense of humor. He was super helpful in making my purchase a pleasant experience.
I needed lots of parts swapped out and upgraded on the bike, because as I am nearly 50 years old, I am still trying to get that Pro Cycling Contract and I want to save every gram that I can. š
Fernando / Francisco assembled and installed all the new parts perfectly and the bike was ready on the date it was promised.
A few weeks later I went back and bought another bike. The sale price was too good to pass up and again, I needed some minor upgrades installed and they hooked it up for me again. Just an excellent experience.
Iāve had a chance to speak with two of their mechanics (Rick and Eliseo) and they were both soooo nice and helpful, despite clearly being very busy.
The two girls that are always there are also very nice, super cute, fun to chat with and very friendly.
Iām now in the process of buying my third bike from UC Cyclery in just as many months and Iāve had a chance to speak and work with Dave the owner and he has been really great and beyond fair and reasonable.
I would highly recommend checking out this shop if you are in the market for a new bike, need service on your current bike or just want to shave some grams off...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWOW! UC Cyclery is the perfect local bike store... Background: My wife and I were interested in purchasing entry level road bikes to go around PCH and San Diego. We met Daniel who was super helpful and experienced. He educated us on the bike options, costs, benefits and pro/cons of each model type. My wife wasn't entirely convinced but thanks to Daniel, she found a bike that was perfect for her preference, budget and experience. They're helped us pick out all the necessities with an honest and informative approach.
You're not getting sold here, this staff is truly passionate about Road and Mountain biking.
Bottom Line: We both bought 2020 Specialized Roubaix (base model), kit, bottles, helmets, shoes, pedals etc. I got a trip computer and a flat repair kit + tube. Daniel and the staff literally spent hours with us, while also helping anyone who walked in the door whether it's a purchase or a bike repair they were absolutely top-notch.
Why you should buy a bike from them: 100% interest-free financing for 12 months which is awesome. We financed our entire purchase including accessories, SO ZERO DOLLARS OUT OF POCKET ($0). PLUS they will tune-up/service your bike for free for life!
They gave us a great deal (discount) on accessories and older model year gear.
UC Cyclery is absolutely the best bike shop...
