I like this little library. What stands out to me most is its high roof and great use of natural light. It manages to feel bigger and more open this way in comparison to other libraries with limited space. That also grants you views of the beautiful Little Italy scenery.
Another thing that stood out to me about this library was its accessibility. It is in the North Beach area, very close to the 30 and 91 bus stop, and right outside of the DiMaggio Playground Park.
Despite there being a second floor, the only things they have there are a learning lounge and an employees-only area, meaning the library portion is only the first floor. As expected, the catalogue is not going to be as expansive as say, the main library, but they still manage to successfully fit as much as possible. There is some good study space, especially for teens and children. The atmosphere is enhanced with props, pieces of art, and photography. The restrooms are in OK condition.
Overall, I wish to revisit the North Beach Branch...
Read moreExtremely loud a horrible place to study or do any work. There is only one area that you can sit but only a couple tables there. Both the front and back doors are open so you can clearly hear the busses and street noises. The interior design was very poorly planned which is disappointing for a building that appears to be new from the outside. The architecture is not considerate nor neuro divergent spaces. On top of that the summer activities for the children add to the overall noise that fills the entire place. The library should think about having quiet hours in the mornings so people could actually read or do work. The fact it doesn’t open until 10 am is super disruptive to anyone trying to do work in the morning. Vesuvio is a better place to get work done than here which is shocking because that’s a bar and this is a public library! Overall I recommend the public library in China town only a 10 min walk away has way more tables to work at and is...
Read moreThis library has a children's section and teen section I haven't visited. There is fiction, general and local interest, a selection of magazines, and several newspapers available for browsing. An excellent library. There is also a second floor with a conference room for events. The library is next to a local park with bocce ball pitches, a playground, an indoor recreation center, some basketball and tennis courts. There is also a swimming pool that is paid entry and has its own address and schedule of...
