Seeing a restaurant with the name "homemade" was an immediate signal for us to stop and try it out. Yes, I know, any place can claim it, but there's something about the word being in the name of the restaurant. Also, it looked like a small mom-and-pop operation (aside from the pre-packaged items for sale). After wandering in, we patiently waited in line trying to decide what we would order, all while watching the chef prepare meals that the patrons ahead of us had already decided on. on approaching the register, I decided on the meat lasagna, my girlfriend on the Gnocchi with pesto. I do remember a sign (not pictured) stating that they do not serve chicken. While surprising, it actually made me think this might be an authentic Italian restaurant. After ordering we found a table and 2 seats outside in the covered patio. Not too long after, our food was ready & we were very ready to try it. I'll start with the Gnocchi & pesto, while it wasn't bad, there wasn't much flavor. The Gnocchi was soft and the appropriate texture, but the entire dish was quite disappointing, from a flavor profile point of view. The lasagna, on the other hand, was delicious, like really delicious, but it came with disappointment, too. When eating lasagna, I always start on one side and work my way from one side to the middle then to the other side again. I started on the one side, raved to my girlfriend about the delicious flavor & encouraged her to taste, as well. She also thought the lasagna was amazing & much more flavorful that her dish. The problem we encountered was that the lasagna was cold in the middle. I don't mean Luke-warm either, it was cold. It was apparent that the lasagna had been removed from the fridge or freezer & heated up, insufficiently, in a rush to get orders out to customers. I decided not to send it back, because I had eaten nearly half of it already and did not want to wait for it to come out again or get an additional serving (it was large). I ended up eating around the cold portion & leaving it for the trash. I would consider giving them another try, but probably not insist to anyone that it would be a "must try". I enjoyed the hot part of the lasagna very much. but with us have issues with both dishes that we ordered, I feel like they have some...
Read moreDuring my trip to San Francisco, I was looking for some Italian food and noticed good reviews for the Italian Homemade Company. I decided to swing by with my boyfriend & sister to see if we wanted to eat here and this place was BUSY. In the food world, busy typically = great food. Now it is a little confusing if it's your first time here as you have to get in line to place your order & pay and then find a seat and wait for them to bring it out to you. Once you know how it works, no big deal whatsoever. It was also a bit confusing as we couldn't find a full menu until we were basically at the counter which caused us to frantically make a decision to not hold up the long line behind us.
We settled on two slices of lasagna, spaghetti & meatballs, and a full order of flatbread. Weirdly enough, they said the spaghetti had to be made with fettuccine noodles although there were signs for menu items with spaghetti. We found a seat and waited about ten minutes for our food to come out to us. Everything came out hot, in generous serving sizes, and smelling delicious. Our meals passed our taste test as we devoured our food. The flatbread was absolutely perfect to dip into all of the extra meat sauce on the lasagna plates & I definitely recommend grabbing an order with your meal.
The most memorable part of our meal here was the absolute strange conversations we could not escape from overhearing as the tables outside are so close together. It gave us a good laugh though so no complaints here! We'd definitely...
Read moreGloria was more eager to clean up for the night than she was to correct our order. We received two entrees very quickly but after waiting for the third to come out for an additional 10 minutes we asked Gloria when it would be out. She claimed that we never ordered the Calzone and after telling her that was the first thing we ordered she admitted that she must have “misunderstood”, chuckled, and walked away. Next time you misunderstand a customer Gloria at least offer to make them the meal. They may have to wait a little longer than they like but at least they won’t leave unhappy like we did tonight. A few suggestions to the restaurant: the pasta that we did receive was amazing but it would have been better if the sauce wasn’t being soaked up by a paper plate. If you’re serving your lovely customers pasta on a paper plate do not charge them $12 for a glass of wine. And finally if you are going to overcharge for wine at least make sure Gloria fills up half the glass. She can take lessons from the male server, he knew what he was doing and was very pleasant. It’s worth meticulously we ordered more than an hour...
