Petco — Attraction in San Francisco

I liked how everything in their little store is very well kept and clean but that doesn't stop there. I walked in earlier today and didn't get no welcome or any help (not that I needed it) and I start to look around for supplies that I want because I am working to get a new puppy as a fresh start for a better life. Anyways I looked around after I walked in, only to be lurked at by tall male security in black uniform who was trying to make me feel uncomfortable. He actually thought I was going to do something stupid when I was only going to look for things that I'm going to need for later. Mostly I was looking at the fish aquarium and saw the sea turtles and the fishes big and small ones. Meanwhile, tall male security kept looking in my direction along with one of the workers so I gave them the go away look and I walked the other way to look for things that I am going to save up for, after I have my new puppy. As of today my visit to this Petco store on 16th was so awkward that I couldn't continue to look at anything else and walked out. Not in (a) hurry to go back either. 😞😖

While I am updating this review after 7 years as I was conflicted enough to leave this review and so I left a one star due to the grooming department because when I took my small dog in and came back to pick her up they didn't do such a hot job on the haircut alone as it was cut unevenly and they also didn't take the time to brush her either despite paying for this service. Plus they didn't even trim the front of her paws 🐾 but they got the back of it at least. This one groomer name Caprisha t. tries to blame it on the fact that I brought her in when they were the ones that readily agreed to take her in anyway despite of her age and health status. Not to mention the extra charges that were added to the bill for their crap service. Plus the groomer did me a favor by not taking my dog back even though I would never ask her to do that so I am done taking my furbaby to this Petco store. I also contacted Petco headquarters as this store said they "didn't have the authority" to delete my account and the Petco headquarters team that I was connected to didn't delete/close my account either so I just went on ahead and disconnected my Google account from Petco as I no longer will be needing their crap service anymore. This review is about one person and pertains to guinea pigs. Christina, Christina, Christina!!! Every pet shop needs a Christina -- who went ridiculously above/ beyond for us. We went to purchase dog/guinea pig supplies w/ me just having to "just see" the piggies. Of course, I had to leave w/ "Critter," a 4-month-old pig who was a heart stealer. I have 2 older rescue pigs -- so a newbie to young pigs, pigs from pet stores, bonding young & old pigs. I bonded Critter w 2 older pigs same day -- beautifully. A neighbor then told me this is a no-no. New pigs need to be separated for abt 4-6 weeks completely -- before attempting bonding. Their immune systems are different, they could be carrying certain things that could be detrimental to older pigs, etc. Setting up 2 separate cages in our apt would've been impossible --(pigs need a lot of space --our current set is 6 ft x 3 ft). Christina immediately offered to take Critter back -- keep him separate from other pigs in store & monitor his health for a month or so -- under the care of Petco's partner vet hospital -- to ensure he wasn't bringing home anything that could jeopardize the older pigs. She has called us weekly to update us on his progress/disease free status. We will be picking up Critter this week. PS: If you are considering a piggie as a 1st timer, do your homework. !) Not for children (they resist being handled until you spend months earning their trust). 2) Not for teens who might get bored or resist the high maintenance/attention needed. 3) Not inexpensive to maintain properly (clean cage often, daily veggies, unlimited hay). 4) They are social creatures (don't get 1 -- get 2). In Switzerland & some other countries, its illegal to own 1 (considered an act of "cruetly to animals.") 5) They require attention, playtime on the floor, in your lap, etc. I have owned over 2 dozen different species of animals, reptiles, birds, fish... I love/loved them all dearly. But no animal comes close to the charm/personality/love of guinea pigs. They are special to someone who can dedicate time, patience, love, care & attention. I Haaaate this Petco!!! I wish there was any other pet store around that was easy for me to get to. I have an expensive habit for buying pet supplies and I hate that I am spending all this money at this dumb Petco with the absolute WORST customer service ever!!! The customer service at this place is TERRIBLE . I know it is just Petco and I shouldn't really expect much from them but the staff is seriously disappointing especially if you need help in aquatics. I am never in a rush and do not mind waiting, as long as they do get to me ,at some point before they close, and not act as if it is a burden whenever someone does help. I literally spend several hundreds of dollars at this store every month, but, for some reason I still don't have a good feeling about going there. Honestly, in my opinion, the people that work here just suck. One manager's attitude is so arrogant and rude it pains me to be in his presence, really the only welcoming ,I sort of felt, at all, was from the security guard . What is worse, and the other reason I am getting off this pet store,...cold turkey, is the Sad state of the care given to the animals there. I really don't think the people working There know are care about animals all that much. I know it is not a requirement to get a job at a pet store to care, know are even want to learn about animals but ideally I wish it was . Maybe than the aquatics would not be in such a sad state {which is not at first noticeable but trust me IT IS NOT GOOD) and the more I go there the more noticeable it has become.
