San Jose State University Spartan Bookstore — Attraction in San Jose

San José State is growing and improving in all the right ways. Located in the center of Silicon Valley, this university blends a rich history with a forward-thinking student population. The campus is walkable, the energy is strong, and you’re never too far from the buzz of downtown life.

We loved how open and inviting the newer parts of campus felt. The student union, library, and common areas had a great mix of energy and calm. Everyone we encountered, from students to staff, was respectful and focused, but also friendly. You can tell people here are building toward something bigger.

That said, we’d love to see the school take the next step in its message. Yes, San José State powers Silicon Valley—but it would be even better to say, “Empowering San José State students to power Silicon Valley.” Let’s shift the focus to the students. They’re the heartbeat of the innovation, culture, and progress coming out of this region.

Some areas of campus could also benefit from more lighting and tech-forward upgrades. A smart solution would be implementing solar lighting or smart campus infrastructure in spots that still feel a bit outdated or dim. To be fair, they may already be working on it, but making those efforts more visible would show the public they’re serious about student safety and innovation.

First and last time I placed an order. It shows that "used" books are available online for a much lower price but once I purchased, they sent me a new book for both my orders and charged an additional $130. I think the website should be updated, (btw it shows even now, a few weeks after placed my order, the cheap version even though it's not available). Books are much cheaper available on amazon or elsewhere, you can buy a new one for the same price you can rent a new book here. I won't purchase...

The bookstore is a nice place to look around and familiarize yourself with as a student. But I will say, I don’t know if he was having a bad day or what but the older guy who works there is straight up rude, bad tone, disrespectful, had to leave before I said something back. I only remember calling him out for having a disgusting tone and calling him rude, when all I wanted to do was return a book I borrowed. Other than him, every employee I have encountered were...
