Balneario Condado — Attraction in San Juan

Great beach for some calm snorkeling off the shore with a lot of area to explore and many hidden gems underwater. There’s a variety of corals and fish (plenty of types, some eels, crabs, anemones, urchins, etc). The visibility isn’t amazing but seems similar to other beaches in the area and still makes for some fun easy access snorkeling right in the city. Great for younger kids too as long as they don’t step on the reefs. The rocky reef protects the water really nicely and the swimming area is buoyed a good distance. The beach itself is a modest sandy area but there are a lot of little shells, coral, rocks, and leaves along with some pesky pigeons and unfortunately smaller litter. In the outdoor exercise area at the entrance there is a little spot to rinse off feet and shoes as well. Great place to actually swim. Most of the beaches in PR are not safe for swimming. If they don't say "balneario", here you can rent beach chairs & umbrellas (bring cash, order drinks from the hotel bar (they will come to you, cash or credit) and there is a vendor or two selling snacks. The water is perfectly still, protected by a series of rock formations that keep all the waves out. Good for snorkeling, too. Ideally, I'd like to find a beach that had some waves.but...
